IN SUPPORT OR CONTINUED SECTION 8 HUD 1UNDING
WHEREAS, the City of Edmonds, Washington, has a long history of service to the aging population in
its community; and
WHEREAS, the Olympic View Apartments were built as low income housing under the Section 8
Funding Program of HUD in 1977; and
WHEREAS, this housing facility was created for the express purpose of providing housing to an elderly
population who need rental assistance due to restrictive income; and
WHEREAS, the Olympic View Apartments have been meeting a critical need in the city for twenty
years and are extremely well maintained and operated; and
WHEREAS, if this facility is denied further HUD assistance under the Section 8 Building Program,
the tenants will be forced to relocate to living facilities outside this city; and
WHEREAS, the possibility of losing their homes and their ability to live in the City of Edmonds is
causing many of our aging and infirm citizens fear and distress.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Mayor and the City Council of Edmonds, Washington, do hereby respectfully
request of Congress and the President of the United States that appropriate funding levels be allocated to
HUD for the purpose of continuing the Section 8 Funding Program and further that HUD be directed to
continue to hold the mortgages on facilities created under this program when the owners are maintaining
them at an acceptable standard and are willing to continue o gating them as low income housing,
especially when it was uniquely built to meet the requiremen s f this sRe9*1 needs population.
