Resolution 8800006.900000 PAO /gjz 07/29/97 RESOLUTION NO. 880 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON ESTABLISHING ITS SUPPORT FOR THE REMOVAL OF TOBACCO ADVERTISING ON AK MEDIA BILLBOARDS. WHEREAS, the Edmonds City Council recognizes the negative health impact which tobacco has and the influence which billboard advertising has on the perceptions of our children and youth about tobacco products; and WHEREAS, the Snohomish County Health District Board of Health sent a letter to AK Media /NW dated July 9, 1997 requesting that AK Media /NW voluntarily eliminate all billboard advertising of tobacco in Snohomish County as of January 1, 1998; and WHEREAS, the Edmonds City Council is in total support of the Snohomish County Health District Board of Health's letter to AK /Media NW dated July 9, 1997; and WHEREAS, AK Media /NW signed an agreement with the Seattle -King County Department of Public Health dated July 3, 1997, which will have the effect of eliminating all tobacco advertising from AK Media /NW billboards in King County as of January 1, 1998, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Document -1- Section 1. On behalf of the Citizens of the City of Edmonds, AK Media /NW is hereby requested to voluntarily eliminate all of its billboard advertising of tobacco within the City of Edmonds and within the remainder of Snohomish County by January 1, 1998.
