A RESOL UTION OF THE MA YOR AND CITY COUNCII, OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS IN
SUFFORT OF FSRCS AMENDMENT TO THE METROPOLITAN TRANSFORTA TION FLAN
WHICH INCLUDES THE SEA -TAC AIRFORT F,XFANSION WITH A DDITIONA L NOISE
REDUCTIONMEASURES
WHEREAS, the Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC), the region's growth and
transportation planning agency under federal and state laws, decided that the
proposed third runway at Sea -Tac Airport was the best way to meet the
region's long -term air transportation capacity needs; and
WHEREAS, following a consultant study that involved review of numerous potential sites
around the region, the Regional Council concluded in October 1994 that
there was not a suitable site in the region for a major supplemental airport;
and
WHEREAS, the Executive Board, at its April 25 meeting, agreed to use the
recommendations in the Final Decision on Noise Issues of the Expert
Arbitration Panel on Demand /System Management and Noise as the basis for
deciding what additional noise reduction measures should be part of
including a proposed third runway at Sea -Tac Airport as an amendment to
the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP); and
WHEREAS, as a result of discussions at the Executive Board workshop on May 30, PSRC
staff has recommended an amendment to the MTP be adopted at the July 11
General Assembly meeting; and
WHEREAS, the public hearing on the amendment to include the third runway at Sea -Tac
Airport with specific noise reduction measures will take place on June 27.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Mayor and Edmonds City Council do hereby support the Puget
Sound Regional Council amendment to the Metropolita ransportation Plan which includes
expansion of Sea -Tac Airport with a third runway and Xith additionA noise reduction
measures.
