A RESOL UTION SUPPORTING THE CITY OF EVERETT AND THE ASSOCIA TION
OF WASHINGTON CITIES EFFORTS TO AMEND RCW 4.24.210 REGARDING
LIABILITIES ASSOCIATED WITH SKATEBOARD FACILITIES
WHEREAS, the cities of Everett, Mount Vernon, Lynnwood, and Edmonds are
considering funding a skateboard facility in response to a need in the
community for facilities for youth activities; and
WHEREAS, a critical issue for cities considering skateboard facilities is the liability
concern; and
WHEREAS, Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 4.24.210 lists a number of
recreational activities where, in the case of injuries or accidents, there is a
limited ability to place liability on the landowner; and
WHEREAS, an amendment to this RCW to include skateboarding as one of the
recreational activities which has a limited liability to the landowner would
provide cities who choose to establish skateboard facilities with more
control and flexibility;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Barbara S. Fahey, Mayor, and the Edmonds City Council do hereby
support the efforts of the City of Everett and the Association of Washington Cities to place this
amendment on the AWC legislative agenda in order obby 997 Legs tore for this
