Resolution 8030006.90000 WSS /are 11/23/94 R: 11/28/94 RESOLUTION NO. 803 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, EXPRESSING THE SUPPORT OF THE EDMONDS CITY COUNCIL FOR THE RTA PHASE I PLAN TO THE SNOHOMISH COUNTY COUNCIL, AND REQUESTING THAT SNOHOMISH COUNTY REMAIN IN THE RTA AND THAT THE CITIZENS OF SNOHOMISH COUNTY BE ALLOWED TO VOTE ON THE RTA PLAN. WHEREAS, the City of Edmonds is a participant along with the cities of Snohomish County in the Regional Transit Authority (RTA), and WHEREAS, the City Council and Mayor of the City of Edmonds believe Edmonds and Snohomish County should be part of an integrated seamless transportation system for Puget Sound, and WHEREAS, the City Council and Mayor of the City of Edmonds wish to express their support for RTA Phase I Plan as well as to petition the Snohomish County Council to, continue its participation in the RTA and to permit its citizens to vote on the RTA plan, and WHEREAS, the City of Edmonds, due to its location astride a major rail corridor and with a state ferry dock has a unique interest in transportation issues, particularly those relating to the speed and safety of rail traffic through the City of Edmonds, now, therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: 88949.1 -1- Section 1. The Mayor and City Council of the City of Edmonds hereby express to the Snohomish County Council their unanimous support for the RTA Phase .I Plan. The County Council is requested to remain as a participant in the RTA and to permit the citizens of Snohomish County within the RTA area to be permitted to vote on the RTA plan. Section 2. The City further expresses its continuing concern that existing rail speeds within the City of Edmonds be maintained in order to preserve the safety of individual citizens and the traveling public and requests the continued assistance of Snohomish County, the RTA, Burlington Northern, Amtrack and Washington Department of Transportation in working with the City to address existing and anticipated safety issues.
