RESOLUTION NO. 731
WHEREAS, Larry S. Naughten served on the City of Edmonds Planning Board from 1972
to 1978, was elected and served' on the Edmonds City Council from 1978 to 1983, and was
elected in 1983 and served for eight distinguished years from -1984 through 1991 as the first
full -time Mayor,of Edmonds; and
WHEREAS;' - during his administration Mayor Naughten, laid the foundation for many
importantcivic improvements including a stormwater management utility,`the construction
of the Meadowdale Playfields, the rebuilt Brackett's Landing Jetty, historic street lights in
downtown Edmonds, an expanded flower program, and miles - of paved city''streets. He
established and chaired the Highway 99 Task Force which united local businesses,
residents, other cities and regional agencies to plan for the improvement of this major
arterial and secure millions of dollars of State funding.
:WHEREAS,-..'Mayor Naughten -led his Staff in the planning, • design; and construction of
the City's new Wastewater Treatment Plant, the largest -.and .most - complex capital
improvement project in the history of the City of Edmonds and, encouraged economic
development and public art projects that, will benefit our community for decades to come.
He provided the inspiration, and' leadership for-the City's historic, year -long celebratioii of
Edmonds' 100 Year Centennial.Jn -1990 'and construction of4uruCentennial,Plaza. He is
also credited ,A'th�,and�appreciated,for the' establishment .- of;our;*"flaurishing and-•successful
international Sister - City Program; and
VMERE", :� Mayor ' Naughten,", during his administration, brought;- highly °qualified . and
capable :professional=staffto theiCity of Edmonds -and honored: Edmonds ',_City. employees
with kindness,:.respect, and appreciation. In addition he bestowed ,upon them trust, moral
support,- a;sympathetic ear and,.above all;-his delightful, medi&i Atbumor.
