Resolution 6450006. WSS /naa 06/13/86 RESOLUTION NO. 645 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, REQUESTING THE ASSOCIATION OF WASHINGTON CITIES TO, THROUGH ITS LOBBYING EFFORTS, APPROACH THE STATE LEGISLATURE IN ORDER TO BRING ABOUT AMEND- MENT OF CHAPTER 35A OF THE REVISED CODE OF WASHINGTON TO PERMIT THE EMPLOYMENT OF LEGISLATIVE ASSISTANTS AND OTHER STAFF PERSONS DIRECTED BY CITY COUNCILS OF ALTERNATIVE CODE CITIES WHEREAS, Chapter 35A of the Revised Code of Washington vests in the Mayor, in Mayor - Council forms of government, the hiring and firing powers with regard to all City employees; and WHEREAS, a City Council requires from time to time the assistance of trained professional staff in order to assist it in its legislative efforts and to provide assistance in counseling for such legislative body; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edmonds deems it appropriate for such legislative assistant to be hired and fired by the City Council and to have clear lines of authority running to said City Council, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: The City Council of the City of Edmonds hereby requests the Association of Washington Cities to lend its support through its lobbying efforts to bring about amendment of RCW 35A.12.090 to authorize the exercise of appointment and removal of employees by the City Council for the limited purpose of providing for r staff person or persons to assist the Council in its legislative function and subject to the limitation that such employees shall not participate in or interfere with the administration of the City.
