RESOLUTION NO. 606
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
DECLARING THE POLICY OF THE CITY TO PROVIDE EQUAL
ACCESS FOR ITS HANDICAPPED CITIZENS TO ITS EMPLOY-
MENT AND TO ITS PROGRAMS AND SERVICES.
WHEREAS, the City of Edmonds has long been committed to a
policy of equal opportunity regarding employment, services,
programs, and benefits, and
WHEREAS, handicapped residents of the City of Edmonds may
experience difficulty in gaining access to employment, services
and facilities, and
WHEREAS, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and ensuing regu-
lations of 1977 and 1983 require that no person be denied such
employment service, programs or benefits, or be subjected to any
form of discrimination therein on the basis of handicap, now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED that:
Section 1. It shall continue to be the policy of the
City of Edmonds that all handicapped individuals will be
guaranteed, within reasonable limits, equal access to services,
programs, benefits, and facilities under the auspices of the
City, and that qualified handicapped applicants will be given
equal consideration when seeking employment with the City of
Edmonds.
Section 2. It is the policy of the City of Edmonds to
handle any special requests for accommodation by a handicapped or
disabled individual, or their representative, on an individual
basis. Whenever an employee of the City is notified of a request
by a handicapped or disabled individual, reasonable arrangements
to accommodate the handicapped or disabled individual's needs
shall be made.
Section 3. The City will develop/implement a plan of
action, encompassing all programs and facilities administered by
the City to ensure, within reasonable limits, accessibility to
all citizens.
