RESOLUTION NO. 523
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASH-
INGTON, OPPOSING THE CLOSURE OF ANY PUBLIC
SCHOOL IN THE CITY OF EDMONDS.
WHEREAS, the Edmonds School Board is currently con-
sidering the closure of a number of Edmonds Public Schools;
and
WHEREAS, an environmental impact statement has been
prepared to advise the Edmonds School Board of the conse-
quences and adverse impacts of the closure of such schools;
and
WHEREAS, the closure of any of the Edmonds Public
Schools will most undoubtedly have an adverse impact upon the
physical, social and economic environment,of the City of
Edmonds; and
WHEREAS, the environmental impact statement prepared
for the Edmonds School Board does not adequately discuss
these adverse impacts and therefore this document fails to
fully advise the Edmonds School Board of the entire ramifi-
cations of such closure action; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has always supported the
concept of neighborhood schools and finds that the closure of
any public school in Edmonds would be contrary to this
policy, now, therefore,

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS HEREBY
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
1. That the City's policy in favor of neighborhood
schools be reaffirmed;
2. That the City of Edmonds strongly opposes and
protests any consideration of the closure of any public
school in Edmonds;
3. That the Edmonds School Board be petitioned and
urged not to consider the closure of any Edmonds public
school; and
4. That copies of this resolution be sent to the
members of the Edmonds School Board and all interested
persons.
