Resolution 509MAE /bjf 10/28/81 RESOLUTION NO. 509 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON SUPPORTING LEGISLATION TO AUTHORIZE IMPOSITION OF A ONE -HALF CENT SALES TAX AT LOCAL OPTION. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edmonds finds that it is in the manifest best interests of the public health, safety and welfare that local government be provided with additional sources of income to meet the ever present demand for municipal services, and k WHEREAS, during the 1981 legislative session Substitute House Bill 749 was introduced providing for the imposition of a one -half cent sales tax at the option of a municipality with the proviso that if such option is exercised, the City may not impose growth related system development charges including requiring the dedication of land; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edmonds finds that the one -half cent local option sales tax is a subject which should be treated separately from that of a prohibition of construction and development charges, and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that a one -half cent local option sales tax would serve the best interests of the public health, safety and welfare, now, therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: y � Section 1. That the City of Edmonds hereby petitions the Legislature of the State of Washington for the introduction and passage of legislation which would provide for a one -half cent local option sales tax for the benefit of cities and towns. Section 2. The City,Council of the City of Edmonds further petitions the Legislature of the State of Washington to vote against any bill which proposes to prohibit cities from imposing growth related system development charges. Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to forward copies of this resolution to.the Governor and such other public officials whose names appear on Exhibit A, attached hereto and incorporated herein as if set forth in full.
