A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
REQUESTING THE LEGISLATORS IN THE FIRST AND
TWENTY -FIRST LEGISLATIVE DISTRICTS TO USE THEIR
BEST EFFORTS TO IMPLEMENT A STOP LIGHT PLACED AT
THE INTERSECTION OF 236TH SOUTHWEST AND EDMONDS
WAY.
WHEREAS, the intersection of 236th Southwest and
State Route 104, also known as Edmonds Way, is outside the
city limits of the City of Edmonds, Washington and is under
the jurisdiction of the State Highway Department, and
WHEREAS, children from the City of Edmonds, as
well as Snohomish County, must cross Edmonds Way at 236th
Southwest to attend Madronna Junior High School, and
WHEREAS, the present traffic control devices
located near this intersection are not effective in control-
ling the speed and flow of traffic to provide a safe cross-
ing place for the school children, and
WHEREAS, within the last few months, there have
been several accidents involving collisions and near colli-
sions between vehicle traffic on Edmonds Way and school
children attempting to cross Edmonds Way at this intersec-
tion, and
WHEREAS, unless the State Highway Department
installs a stop light at this intersection, this dangerous
condition will continue and
WHEREAS, notwithstanding this dangerous condition,
present criteria of the State Highway Department apparently
do not permit installation of a stop light at this inter-
section, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL.OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHING-
TON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the legislators in the First and
Twenty -First Legislative Districts do whatever is necessary
to make funds available for a traffic signal light at the
intersection of 236th Street Southwest and Edmonds Way and
to encourage revision of criteria that impede the same.
Section 2. That the City Clerk be instructed to
send a certified copy of this resolution to the legislators
in the First and Twenty -First Legislative Districts and the
Director of the State Highway Department.
