A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING APPLICATION
BY SAID CITY FOR FUNDING ASSISTANCE FROM THE
STATE OF WASHINGTON INTERAGENCY COMMITTEE FOR
OUTDOOR RECREATION AS PROVIDED BY THE MARINE
RECREATION LAND ACT.
WHEREAS, The Comprehensive Land Use Plan of the City
of Edmonds, Washington, duly adopted by the City Council of
said city, designates the waterfront area from the southern
boundary of the existing Port of Edmonds to the northern
boundary of the Town of Woodway for aquatic recreation
purposes; and
WHEREAS, a portion of the area has been for a number
of years, and is presently leased by the city for waterfront
park and recreation purposes, which area has become and is
an integral part of the salt water recreation area open to
the public in the southern portion of South Snohomish County° and
WHEREAS, said existing site and the additional lands
to the south have substantial importance to the public residing
in the City of Edmonds and its surrounding environs for their
pursuit of outdoor recreation and sports; and
WHEREAS., under the provision • of -the Marine Recreation
Land Act, state and federal funding assistance has been
authorized and made available to aid in financing the cost of
land for parks and the construction of outdoor recreational
facilitiies of local public bodies. ;..and.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edmonds, considers
it in the public interest to acquire this waterfront area as
a part of its public beach and recreation facilities,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, AS FOLLOWS:
1) That the mayor be authorized to make formal application
to the Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation for funding
assistance;
2) That any funding assistance so received be used
for the acquisition of said property being approximately 5 -1/2
acresin size which is adjacent to,the_city and accessible
only through the City of Edmonds;
3) That any property so acquired with financial aid
through the Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation be
placed in use as an outdoor recreation facility and be retained
in such use by the city by acquisition of fee title;
4) That if the city is selected to receive the funds
sought in the formal application authorized in Sub - paragraph
#1 above the City Council agrees to provide the necessary local
matching monies in an amount not to exceed $14,500.00, as
part of its budget for the fiscal year 1977, which year commences
January 1, 1977;
5) That a certified copy of this resolution shall be
included as a part of a formal application to the Interagency
Committee for Outdoor Recreation.
