Resolution 324RESOLUTION NO. 324 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, STATING SAID CITY'S INTENT TO REQUEST THE COOPERATION OF THE STATE OF WASH- INGTON HIGHWAY COMMISSION, THE CITIES OF LYNNWOOD AND MOUNTLAKE TERRACE AND SNOHOMISH COUNTY TO REMOVE SR -524 WITHIN THE CITY OF EDMONDS FROM MAIN STREET TO THE EAST CITY LIMITS AS A THROUGH TRUCK ROUTE FOR'MOTOR TRUCKS OR OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES AND DESIGNATING SR -104 ( EDMONDS WAY) AS A TRUCK ROUTE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edmonds, Washington, finds that it is in the public health, safety and general welfare that the operation of motor trucks or other similar vehicles be eliminated from SR -524 from Main Street to the east city limits within said city for the reasons that such traffic constitutes a hazard to the travelling and pedestrian traffic on said roadway and is disruptive and creates an unnecessary hazard by virtue of the route passing through predominantly residential areas and due to the fact that a portion of said route due to steepness of grade creates additional hazards to the safety of the travelling public, and, WHEREAS, said roadway may be seriously damaged or destroyed unless the operation of motor trucks or similar vehicles thereon is prohibited or restricted, and WHEREAS, there is an alternative route available for through truck traffic to enter and leave said city, now, therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: (1) The State of Washington, Highway Commission, is hereby requested to concur in the removal of SR -524 from Main Street to the east city limits from the designation as a truck route to prohibit motor trucks or other vehicles with a licensed gross weight in excess of 10,000 pounds from operating on said -1- roadway but permitting the operation of school buses, emergency vehicles and local access of motor trucks necessary for the health and welfare of local residents. (2) That the State of Washington, Highway Commission and Highway Department cooperate with the city in planning appropriate signing to notify all potential motor truck or other vehicular traffic affected by said restrictions of the prohibition as to through truck traffic on said roadway. (3) That the Cities of Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace and the County of Snohomish are hereby requested to concur in the designation of said roadway and to� further cooperate with the City of Edmonds and the State of Washington in placing appro- priate signing on state highways and other appropriate location on local thoroughfares leading into the City of Edmonds in order to provide sufficient notice and direction as to the prohibition of through truck traffic and the location of the alternate route of SR -104 (Edmonds Way). (4) That the State of Washington Highway Commission and all other local jurisdictions affected thereby concur in the designation of SR -104 (Edmonds Way) as a truck route for truck traffic entering and leaving or passing through the City of Edmonds.
