A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, EMPOWERING AND DIRECTING
711THE MAYOR TO ESTABLISH A "SISTER CITY" AFFILIATION
WITH HIMEJI, IIYOGO PREFECTURE, JAPAN.
WHEREAS, there has long been a close cultural and
trade interchange between the nations of the United States
of America and Japan, and more particularly between the
state of Washington and the nation of Japan; and
WHEREAS, the Prefecture of Hyogo and the State of
Washington are now commemorating a decade of expanding
cultural and commercial relationships; and
WHEREAS, the South Himeji High School and Edmonds
High School have established a sister school affiliation
and are now exchanging students, and
WHEREAS, the cities of Himeji and Edmonds have the
common characteristic of bordering on inland bodies of water
which open onto the Pacific Ocean; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Edmonds, Washington,
U.S.A., desire to foster, promote and maintain a cultural and
economic exchange for the mutual benefit of both cities and to
further promote the exchange of ideas and a greater understanding
between the peoples of these two great nations, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS,
WASHINGTON,AS FOLLOWS:
That the Mayor of the City of Edmonds is hereby directed
to establish a sister city affiliation with Himeji, Hyogo
Prefecture, Japan, and is further empowered to execute all
documents necessary to establish such relationship between
the two cities.
