PSP052317PUBLIC SAFETY & PERSONNEL COMMITTEE MEETING
Mav 23. 2017
Elected Officials Present
Councilmember Mike Nelson (Chair)
Councilmember Adrienne Fraley-Monillas
Mayor Dave Earling (intermittently)
Staff Present
Carrie Hite, Parks & Recreation Director
Jerrie Bevington, Recorder
The meeting was called to order at 7:54 p.m. n the Police Training Room.
Parks Deputy Director
Ms. Hite explained the current deputy director is retiring. When the City recruited for the position in
April, Kirkland and Everett advertised for the same position with much higher wages. HR Director
Mary Ann Hardie conducted a salary survey of Issaquah, Kirkland, Lynnwood and Sammamish
(comparable cities with a deputy director position). The 2016 wage range for Edmonds and the four
other cities shows Edmonds in the median; however, the adjusted wages for 2017 shows Edmonds at
the low end. She recommended the Council consider moving this position from NR16 to NR17; the
$6,000/year increase places Edmonds within the median of comparable cities. This amount can be
absorbed by the Parks & Recreation Department due to other salary savings. Discussion followed
regarding the wage ranges in comparable cities and the job description (no change).
