An Ordinance regulating the ownership of dogs.
Be it ordained by the Council of the Town of Edmonds.
SECTIO-+ 1; The keeping of dogs and bitches within the limits
the Town of Edmonds is hereby prohibited, unless the owners or
keepers thereof shall procure a license for each do or bitch, as

M hereinafter provided for, and every person violating the provisions
of this Section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and on
conviction thereof, shall for each offense be fined in any sum not
exceeding twenty-five dollars.
SECTION 2:
The annual license tax on dogs one dollar, and

SECTION 3:

and the production of the certificate and receipt

thereof to the Town
Clerk, it shall be the duty of said Clerk to
issue a license
to the person applying for the same, which license
shall remain in
force for one year next succeeding the date of
said license and
no longer; and the Clerk shall also furnish with
such license a metal
tag, upon which -shall be stamped a number

corresponding to
the number of such license, and such tag shall
be appended to a
collar which the owner shall provide and place
upon the neck of
the dog or bitch so licensed.
SECTIOS 4: All dogs or bitches found running at large after
March 1st, without having on such marked collar are declared to be
public nuisances and it shall be the duty of the Town Marshal or
some suitable person to be by him to distrain and impound all such
dogs and bitches for which service he shall be entitled to a feeJ
of one dollar for such dog or bitch to be collected from the owner
or keeper of such dog or bitch, together with the sum of twenty-
five cents for every day that such dog or bitch shall be kept in
custody; provided that no dog or bitch shall be kept.over forty-
eight hours, at the expiration of which time, it shall be the -duty
of the town Marshal to offer such dog or bitch for sale for the
payment of such tax, costs and expenses, due and in case of a
failure to obtain a purchaser for the full amount,of such tax,
costs and expenses, it shall be the duty of said Marshal to cause
such dog or bitch to be killed.
