ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
ADDING A NEW SECTION 11.02.026 TO THE EDMONDS
CITY CODE, AMENDING THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE
BY AMENDING SECTION 3205(c) OF THE UNIFORM
BUILDING CODE REGARDING VENTILATION REQUIREMENTS.
WHEREAS, the Board of Appeals has recommended the
following change in the Uniform Building Code and,
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the following
amendment is in the best interests of the public health, safety,
and general welfare,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS,
WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. A new Section 11.02.026 is hereby added to
the Edmonds City Code to read as follows:
"11.02.026 Ventilation Requirements - Section 3205(c)
Uniform Building Code. Section 3205(c) of the Uniform
Building Code as adopted by reference under Section
11.02.010 of this chapter, is hereby amended to read
as follows:
'(c) Ventilation. Where determined necessary by
the Building Official due to atmospheric or climatic
conditions, enclosed attics and enclosed rafter spaces
formed where ceilings are applied direct to the under-
side of roof rafters, shall have cross ventilation for
each separate space by ventilating openings protected
against the entrance of rain and snow. The net free
ventilating area shall be not less than 1/150 of the
area of the space ventilated, except that the area
may be 1/300 provided at least 50 percent of the
required ventilating area is provided by ventilators
located in the upper portion of the space to be
ventilated at least 3 feet above eave or cornice
vents with the balance of the required ventilation
provided by eave or cornice vents.

Other than in single-family residences or duplexes,
where eave or cornice vents are used to provide the
required ventilation of combustible attic spaces,
vent openings shall not be located within 3 feet
measured laterally above window or door openings
in the wall of the story immediately below.'"
Section 2. This Ordinance shall be in full force and
effect five (5) days after passage and publication by posting as
provided by law.
