Ordinance 2037ORDINANCE NO. 2037 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, AMENDING SECTIONS 1.40.010 AND 1.40.020 OF THE EDMONDS CITY CODE TO REDUCE THE MEMBERS OF THE PARK BOARD FROM NINE TO SEVEN AND TO REDUCE THE TERM OF MEMBERSHIP FROM SIX YEARS TO FOUR YEARS. WHEREAS, the City Council finds that standardizing the number of members of the Park Board at seven and reducing the term of membership to four years is in the best interests of the public health, safety and general welfare, now, therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. At the time of this ordinance the Park Board consists of nine members. Presently existing positions No. 7 and No. 9 shall be eliminated on the expiration of their present terms. The remaining seven positions shall be renumbered accordingly and shall expire as set forth in Section 3 of this ordinance. Section 2. Section 1.40.010 of the Edmonds City Code is hereby amemded to read as follows: 1.40.010 Creation --Eligibility. There is created a Park and Recreation Advisory Board, consisting of seven members, who shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject to confirmation by the City Council, from citizens who reside in the City of Edmonds. In addition thereto, the Mayor shall appoint one member of the City Council to serve without vote, as ex officio member of the Park and Recreation Advisory Board. Section 3. Section 1.40.020 of the Edmonds City -1- Code is hereby amended to read as follows: 1.40.020 Terms of Membership. 1. In order that the fewest terms will expire in any one year, the terms of the voting members by position number shall expire on October 2, of the year set opposite said position number as follows: Position No. 1 1980 Position No. 2 1981 Position No. 3 1981 Position No. 4 1982 Position No. 5 1983 Position No. 6 1983 Position No. 7 1982 Thereafter, the term of office shall be four years. 2. Vacancies occurring otherwise than through the expiration of the terms shall be filled for the unexpired term. Members shall be selected without respect to political affilation and they shall serve without compensation. 3. No member shall be appointed to serve more than two full terms. An appointment to fill a vacancy for less than two years shall not constitute a full term for the purposes of this section. 4. Members shall be removed for failure to maintain attendance as required by provisions of the Edmonds City Code. Section 4.
