AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
ADDING A NEW SUBSECTION 7.01.110(g) TO THE EDMONDS
CITY CODE PROHIBITING DRIVEWAY SLOPES FROM EXCEEDING
FOURTEEN PER CENT (14%) UNLESS AUTHORIZED BY THE
CITY ENGINEER AND SETTING FORTH PROCEDURES AND
STANDARDS THEREFOR.
WHEREAS, development is occurring more frequently
in areas of steep slopes and thus requiring construction of
steeply sloped driveways, and
WHEREAS, the following amendment will be in the
best interest of the public health, safety and general
welfare, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. A new section 7.01.110(g) is hereby
added to the Edmonds City Code to read as follows:
"(g) Drivew!ay Slopes.
1. Driveway slopes shall not exceed fourteen
per cent (14%) unless authorized by the City
Engineer as set forth below.
2. The City Engineer may authorize driveway
slopes to exceed fourteen per cent (14%), up
to a maximum of twenty per cent (20%), if the
City Engineer determines:
(a) There are no other economically
and/or environmentally reasonable
alternatives;
(b) The driveway will not present a
traffic, pedestrian or safety hazard;
(c) The police and fire chiefs concur
in allowing the increased driveway
slope; and
(d) The public health, safety and

general welfare will not be adversely
affected.
3. The City Engineer shall place in the appro-
priate City file a signed, written statement of
findings and reasons for authorizing the
driveway slope to exceed fourteen per cent
(14%). The statement shall also contain the
maximum slope authorized, up to twenty per
cent (200)".
Section 2. This ordinance shall be in full force
and effect five (5) days after passage and publication by
posting as provided by law.
