Ordinance 28210006.130.016 WSS/klt 12/14/90 R:1/23/91 ORDINANCE NO. 2821 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, AMENDING EDMONDS CITY CODE SECTION 2.35.020 HOLIDAYS, PARAGRAPH A, TO DELETE LINCOLN'S BIRTHDAY AND ADD DECEMBER 24TH AND FIXING A TIME WHEN THE SAME SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE. WHEREAS, the bargaining agents of the City have in the course of negotiation indicated a preference by the employees to utilize the day before Christmas as a holiday; WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to recognize Presidents Lincoln and Washington on the third Monday in February. WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to accommodate the interest of its employees in that vacations are established for their convenience and that the Council finds that the day before Christmas does not present an inconvenience to the citizens in that little if any public business is conducted on that date; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Edmonds City Code section 2.35.020 HOLIDAYS, paragraph A, is hereby amended to read as follows: 2.35.020 HOLIDAYS A. Each employee shall be entitled to one day away from service for each of the following holidays: WSS529300 -1- January 1 (New Year's Day) Third Monday of February (President Lincoln and Washington Day) Last Monday of May (Memorial Day) July 4 (Anniversary of Declaration of Independence) First Monday of September (Labor Day) November 11 (Veteran's Day) Fourth Thursday of November (Thanksgiving Day) Day immediately following Thanksgiving Day December 24 and 25 (Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) An additional "floating" holiday. The floating holiday shall be provided in accordance with the rules and regulations of the personnel manual promulgated and approved by the Mayor. Section 2. This ordinance, being an administrative action, is not subject to referendum and shall take effect five (5) days after this ordinance or a summary thereof consisting of the title is published.
