Ordinance 28510006.130.041 WSS/naa 09/11/91 ORDINANCE NO. 2851 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, AMENDING THE PROVISIONS OF SECTION 1.14.030 IN ORDER TO REQUIRE THE FILING OF DISCLOSURE DOCUMENTS BY ELECTED OFFICIALS AND REQUESTING FILINGS BY CANDIDATES; AND FIXING A TIME WHEN THE SAME SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE. WHEREAS, the City has established Chapter 1.14 in order to provide for the disclosure of prohibited interests by public officials; and WHEREAS, all public officials of the City are required to file Public Disclosure Commission documents within ten (10) days of their filing with the Commission; and WHEREAS, the City ordinance does not currently address the filing of documents by persons upon election to City office, and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to address that limitation as well as to request all candidates for public office to file a copy of the Public Disclosure Commission documents with the City Clerk in order to provide up-to-date and accurate information to the citizens of the City of Edmonds regarding campaign contributions and other required items of disclosure at a convenient location within the City, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The Edmonds City Code section 1.14.030 WSS53577O -1- "Requirement of Filing" is hereby amended to read as follows: 1.14.030 REQUIREMENT OF FILING. Every public official of the city of Edmonds shall file with the city clerk within ten (10) days from the date of filing with the Public Disclosure Commission each and every public disclosure form required to be filed on behalf of said official. Any person elected or appointed as a public official shall file all such documents as are required to be filed with the Public Disclosure Commission, relating to the election or appointment process either ten (10) days prior to the date that the individual takes office or ten (10) days from the date such document is filed with the Public Disclosure Commission, which ever shall later occur. Copies of such information shall be maintained by the city clerk for inspection by the public during normal business hours of the city at the office of the city clerk. Candidates for office are requested to file duplicates of their PDC filings with the City Clerk in order to better provide the voters of the city of Edmonds with accurate and up-to-date campaign information at a convenient location within the city. Section 2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to mail copies of this ordinance to all candidates for election to the position of an Edmonds public official and to all applicants for Hearing Examiner position within five (5) days after the date the individual has filed for election to office or submitted an application for appointment to the City. Section 3. This ordinance, being an exercise of a power specifically delegated to the City legislative body, is not subject to referendum, and shall take effect five (5) days after WSS53577O -2- passage and publication of the ordinance or a summary thereof consisting of the title.
