ORDINANCE NO. 3084.
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS,
WASHINGTON, AMENDING SECTION 4.72.040 OF THE
EDMONDS CITY CODE IN ORDER TO CHANGE THE
INITIAL APPLICATION FEE FOR BUSINESS LICENSES
FROM A RANGE OF TWENTY DOLLARS ($20.00) TO
SEVENTY -FIVE DOLLARS ($75.00) DEPENDING UPON
TYPE AND SIZE OF A BUSINESS TO A FLAT FEE OF
SIXTY -FIVE DOLLARS ($65.00) APPLICABLE TO ALL
BUSINESSES AND ALSO TO CHANGE THE RENEWAL FEE
TO A FLAT RATE OF TWENTY -FIVE DOLLARS ($25.00)
PER YEAR IN PLACE OF A RENEWAL FEE THAT
CURRENTLY EQUALS THE INITIAL APPLICATION FEE
AND FIXING A TIME WHEN THE SAME SHALL BECOME
EFFECTIVE.
WHEREAS, Section 4.72.040 of the Edmonds City Code currently charges a
range of fees for an application for initial business license based upon the type and size of the
business for which an application is made, and
WHEREAS, the actual time spent in processing an initial business application is
not dependent upon the type of business, and
WHEREAS, the actual cost to the City of Edmonds in processing business licenses
for any type of business is approximately sixty -five dollars ($65.00), and
WHEREAS, it is felt by the City Council that a renewal fee should be
significantly less than an initial application fee for a business license, NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, DO
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. Section 4.72.040(B) of the Edmonds City Code is hereby repealed and
replaced with the following:
B. Fees for an annual license issued hereunder shall be as follows:
1. The fee for an application for a new business license for
any business within the City of Edmonds shall be sixty -five
dollars ($65.00); and
2. The fee for an application for an annual renewal of a
business license shall be twenty -five dollars ($25.00) for
any business located within the City of Edmonds.
Section 2. Severability. If any section, sentence, clause or phrase of this
ordinance should be held to be invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction,
such invalidity or unconstitutionality shall not affect the validity or constitutionality of any other
section, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance.
Section 3. Effective Date. This ordinance, being an exercise of a power
specifically delegated to the City legislative body, is not subject to referendum, and shall take
effect five (5) days after passage and publication of an approved summary thereof consisting of
the title.
