1950-03-28 City Council MinutesA motion was made by Councilman McGinness and seconded by councilman Waggoner that Mr. Nehl be given permission to break the curb and install a driveway at Sixth and Glen Street under the supervision of the street Supt. Motion carried. The Street committee reported there was not much we coulc do about the drainage water running on the Sommetseth property. A motion was made by councilman McGinness and seconded by councilman Savage that the purchase of a motorola Radio for the Police car be referred to the Finance committee. Motion carried. e Councilman Maxwell suggested that the City Clerk write to the County Commissioners about the dumping of garbage around our South Edmonds water shed. Therebeing no further business the meeting ad' ned. City Cler Mayor March 28, 1950 The Council met for the special session with Mayor McGibbon presiding. The roll call showed the following councilmen present Vollan, Tucker, Waggoner, McGinnews, Engels, Maxwell and Savage. This was the night set for the hearing for a sub -station to be erected at Eighth and VJ'alnut street. A number of people were here to protest this location, also the Fourth Avenue group were here. ,Mr. Shayr stated they have abandoned all plans to establish another site. Attorney Holte stated they have the power of Imminent Domain, that we could not have stopped them from building on their property. A,motion was made by councilman Tucker and seconded by councilman Maxwell tha t the council give their consent to erect a sub -station on the Fourth street property. Motion and second was withdrawn. A motion was made by councilman Tucker that the Council grants the P. U. D. to proceed within their legal righta. Motion withdrawn. Councilman Vollan acted as Mayor. Mayor McGibbon made a motion that the P. U. D. be informed that the Council wishes the P. U. D. to give consideration for all instances for the installation of a sub -station. ,In this instance we do not have the power to do anything, except to ask for this consideration. Second by councilman. Saiaage. Motion and second withdrawn. A motion was made by councilman Vollan and seconded by councilman Savage that in view of the fact that the City Council has no power legally to prevent the P. U. D. from building on their present site we move that the P. U. D. proceed in accordance with their legal rights and the City Council will not obstruct such proceedings. Motion carried. A motion was made by councilman Tucker and seconded by Councilman Engels that ive call for bids on 1500 feet 8 inch and 2000 ft. of 6 inch class 150 Cash Iron pipe BaS. F. 0. B. Seattle„ our stock pile and or Edmonds. Bids tobe opened April 18. Motion carried. V A motion was made by councilman Maxwell and seconded by councilman Savage that the Attorney record the easement to install a water line through the Hannah Park property. Motion carried. A claim for damages was filed from Mrs. Tellevik because of her falling on the didewAlk in fron of the Tribune Review Office. Attorney Holte stated the claim should be denied. A motion was made by councilman McGinness and seconded by councilman Tucker that this be referred to the safety committee to report at the next meeting. Motion carried. read A letter was rfrom Mr. Pakkala in which he asks for $1500 for his property at second ave. north. Mayor McGibbon asked'for the authority to have appraisal on the two pieces of property, this was made a motion by councilman Tucker and seconded by Councilman Waggoner. Motion carried. Mayor McGibbon :recommended,n and ®dconded by councilman Waggoner. that Attorney Holte contact the school board to withdraw the purchase of land from the State Park Lands.
