19550630 City Council Minutes1 1 I- I A motion was made by j'Councilman Maxwell and seconded W Councilman Talen that the street Superintendent proceed mrith the work on B street as outlined by the Engineer Reid, to make the repair of the street to approximately 20 feet in width, at an approximate cost of $250. Motion carried. Engineer Read reported that the extentior_ of Sprague street is not practial3ble. A motion was made by councilman Sommerseth and seconded by councilman Talen that ...Resolution #121 for the improvement of Sprague street be passed and the date of the hearing be setfor July 19. Motion carried. A. motion was. made, by Councilman Tuson and secondedby councilman Sommerseth that the street grade as submitted by Engineer Reid for second avenue from Edmonds '..street to Morse addition be accepted. Motion carried. A motion was made by councilman Kincaid and seconded by councilman Cloud that the street glade as submitted by Engineer Reid for Tenth Avenue between Sprague and Daley street be approved. Motion carried. Councilman Talen voted no. :.Engineer Reid reported that the grading on Pine street has been completed and is ready for the laying of the -water main. Also that the plat of View Manor on Cedar street between Eighth and Ninth avenue is ready for the approval of the Council. Couricilman''Tuson reported on the repairs of the city, and change of heating in the _,building. The plumbing, moveing of burner, new celvs and change of radiation, and painting would cost $6000, installing new radiation upstairs, %51200, new stairs in front of the ;building $825, rptacing of windows up -stairs, $60 apiece. _ 1% There being no further business the meeting adjourned. City Cle rk 51 Mayor-pro-tem JunC13 1955 The Council met for its regular session with Councilman Maxwell serving as Mayor pro-tem, because of the death of Mayor Paul McGibbon. A motion was made by Councilman Sommerseth and seconded by councilman Talen that the'two'bills for labor at the City park,from Bob Olson for. $25.65 and R.. D. Billington for $13.50, be paid. Motion carried. A letter was'read from Jehovah Witness asking for permission to hang a banner across Fifth street, also a letter was read from Mrs. Wilkes asking for permission to put 'a house trailer on her property. These were held over until our recessed meeting. A motion was made by councilman Talen and seconded by Councilman Tuson that we hold our recessed meeting Thursday June 30. Motion carried. June 30, 1955 The Council met for its recessed meeting with Gordon Maxwell acting as Mayor pro-tem, and the following councilmen present Tuson, Talen, Kincaid, Cloud2fflshop and Sommerseth. Because of a vacancy of the office of Mayor a motion was made by councilman Tuson and seconded by councilman Cloud that Gordan Maxwell be elected Mayor until our next :_City Election. Motion carried. Arlie Siefert a member of the Lions Club came before the council asking for permission to hold a carnival at the High School Playfield July 6, 7, and 8. A motion was made by Councilman Kincaid and seconded by councilman Tuson that the Lions Club be given permission to sponsor the Carnival. A claim for damaged.on the sidewalk in front of the Post Office building l from Mary E. Vr'amsley was referred to our Attorney to report on at our next meeting .for the proper procedure, this was made a motion by Councilman Tuson with a second from Councilman Bishop. A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by councilman Talen that permission be given to install the sewer in the plat of View Manor, under the supervision of the Engineer Reid, the cost including manhole and other appurtenances to be assumed by the owner, in lieu of $200 hook an charge, due to the fact it exceeds the cost of the adjoining L. Motion carried. , Therebeing no further busine the meeting adjourned. City Clerk Mayor y 5, 1955 The Council met for its regular session with Mayor Maxwell presiding. The roll call showed the following councilmen present Tuson, Talen, Kincaid, Cloud, Bishop and Sommerseth. The water collectors report was read to the Council. A motion was ,made by Couhcilman Kincaid and seconded by councilman Talen that the bil ls which were approved by the auditing committee be allowed and warrants be drawn on the proper funds. Motion carried. Engineery Reid reported on a preliminary plat adjacent to our water shed, had been approved by the County Commissioners. A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Bishop that Attorney Holte write to the,County Commissioners stating the the City of Edmonds is opposed to this plat, also that we were not notified'of said hearing, and that we request a final approval of the plat. Motion carried. Engineer Reid also reported that Mr. King is planning on raising the grade at tenth and Daley street one foot.
