REPORTS -
A. Creative Programs
1. WOTS — Otness reported that the conference was very successful noting that there are always a few
weak points but in general attendees seemed pleased. The Rick Steves talk Sunday morning was
excellent and he had the filled room completely engaged. Total attendance was 268, and most of the
100 plus attendees on Friday stayed for Saturday/Sunday. Ten percent came from out of state
representing 11 different states. Overall comments have been good and people especially appreciate
how well organized the conference is so congratulations to Laurie Rose and all the volunteers.
Chapin reiterated her appreciation for the hard work of staff and volunteers, including student
representative Blair, and noted that Otness has provided exceptional leadership to the steering
committee for the past eight years and thanked her for that.
2. Tourism Promotion — Saether presented the recommendations of the review committee for the
second round of Tourism Promotion awards. There were three requests, all of which met the
requirements: Cascade Symphony Petting Zoo concert advertising for $1500; Jazz Connection
advertising for $2,000; and the Historical Museum development and printing of a new brochure for
$1,500. After brief discussion Rathvon Moved approval of these three request totaling $5,000 and
Otness Seconded, approved.
Arts & Humanities Proclamation — Chapin reported that the short Arts in Edmonds video shown at
the Mini Arts Summit in July has been edited by Dawn McLellan to create a 3 % minute version set to
music played by the Edmonds Woodway Jazz Band and this will be shown as the presentation after
the proclamation is read at City Council on Oct 6. She encouraged Commissioners to attend.
4. Newsletter — Chapin asked Commissioners to provide information for the fall newsletter if they are
aware of events that should be included.

lights and installation is probably about 3 -4 weeks out.
C. Funding & Administration
1. Community Cultural Plan Work Groups — Commissioners discussed possible dates for fall
meetings of CCP work groups. Dates will be scheduled in the next two weeks.
2. Economic Development Commission Report —The date for this report has been moved to
October or November.
Commissioner Application Process — Chapin reminded Commissioners about the process for
advertising and interviewing prospective commissioners. There will be one vacancy for 2016
since Otness will complete her second term at the end of December 2015. The vacancy will be for
someone involved in the literary arts, but participation on the EAC is not limited to that area
even though chairing the WOTS steering committee is a significant responsibility that will be
assumed once the new Commissioner has gone through the conference once.
