MINUTES Feb 5, 2018

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM by Lesly Kaplan, Chair
INTRODUCTIONS — Commissioners and the Student Rep introduced themselves, noting other organizations they
are associated with. Patricia Oneill, retired from Hamilton College in upstate NY, moved to Edmonds and excited
to contribute to the community through the Arts Commission. She will be interviewed at City Council Feb 6.
MINUTES—1/4/18 minutes — Muir Moved, Sharp Seconded, Approved.
REPORTS -
A. Creative Programs
1. Summer Concerts Selection —The review for concert applications was completed and Erin is
contacting presenters.
2. Music at the Library/ECA Partner Progams — The Wintergrass Preview concert and jam is Feb 10.
Kidstock! at ECA was extremely well attended, EAC helped sponsor performers. EAC is also
sponsoring the free presentation by David Gonzales at ECA on Feb 6, Oneill will attend.
3. Exhibits/Temporary Art —Chapin reviewed the three proposals. Maloney Moved, Muir Seconded,
Approved projects for fence at designated sites.
4. Best Book, April 20 Reception — Kaplan encouraged commissioners to attend. Muir volunteered to
assist with poster pick up from the schools. Pat will assist with mounting and exhibiting posters at
FAC. Sharp will judge and attend the reception, Muir and Kaplan will also attend and Kitahara will
take pictures. Dana Sullivan will give the presentation.

C. Funding & Administration
1. Arts Commissioner Position — Chapin reported that two candidates have interviewed with the Mayor
and will interview with City Council on Feb 6.
2. Economic Impact of Arts Study — Chapin reported that the final report will be presented by the
consultants on Feb 6 at City Council. A public Open House will be held in the Plaza Room at 6 pm on

March 1. AdvisArts will give the presentation and staff will be available to answer questions. She
encouraged commissioners to attend.
3. Arts & Heritage Day in Olympia — Chapin and staff from ECA will attend February 7 Arts & Heritage
Day in Olympia.
4. Annual Report — Kaplan will give the Annual Report at City Council on Mar 6.
5. Retreat/Workshop — The artist statement workshop by Artist Trust will be held in the Plaza Room
March 24 at 10 - noon, followed by the EAC Retreat at 12:30 — 4 pm. Brief discussion followed about
goals for the retreat. Suggested focus on how the Economic Impact Study informs EAC. Maloney and
Muir will work on an ice breaker activity. Rose may attend the beginning of the meeting to report on
W OTS.
STAFF REPORT— Chapin noted that the Gateway sign project is still awaiting response from WSDOT so may
not be ready for presentation at City Council on March 6 as previously planned.
