2019-02-15 Arts Commission Minutesy edmonds ARTS COMMISSION MINUTES February 15, 2019 The Edmonds Arts Commission: dedicated to the arts, an integral part of community life. City of Edmonds Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Department PRESENT: Tanya Sharp Pat Oneill STAFF AUDIENCE Lesly Kaplan Beverly Shaw Starkovich Frances Chapin Sue Gill Rose Excused: Marni Muir, Rhonda Soikowski - work The meeting was called to order at 4:25 PM by Tanya Sharp, Chair INTRODUCTIONS - Sue Gill Rose, local artist, was introduced. MINUTES —Approval of January minutes, Kaplan Moved and Shaw Seconded, Approved. REPORTS - A. Creative Programs 1. Henbart Project —Chapin updated commissioners regarding proposed art installation and showed new site plan. Commissioners requested they show the piece in context in a perspective drawing for the review next month. Nominations — Chapin noted that the vacancy is for a general position. Oneill, Sharp and Muir were on the interview committee. Oneill reported that 7 well qualified applicants were interviewed and the discussions included some great ideas for the Commission. The committee unanimously recommended appointment of Ashley Song for the general position. She brings strong interest in arts and experience in social justice issues, cultural history, and public engagement. Her experience working with issues important to the current goals of the Arts Commission with provide a rich addition to the current balance of the Commission. Kaplan Moved and Shaw Seconded that Ashley Song be recommended to the Mayor and City Council for appointment to the Arts Commission position #6, Approved. 3. Concerts — Chapin thanked Commissioners Soikowski, Kaplan, Muir and student representative Wilhelm who reviewed applicants and said a final schedule will be available at the next meeting. B. Capital Projects C. Funding & Administration STAFF REPORT— Chapin thanked Sharp for representing the City at Arts Day in Olympia and Sharp reported briefly on her experience and shared information with the Commission. Chapin discussed a potential artwork donation or loan and where it could be exhibited. Chapin reiterated that the postponed Wintergrass Preview event for Music at the Library is going ahead on Feb. 16. NEW/OTHER BUSINESS — AUDIENCE COMMENTS — Meeting Adjourned at 5:18 PM
