Rich Lindsay's Staff Report:
Rich reported that the fireproof safe for the cemetery files will be ordered in May because the Visa
Card has been maxed out for April.
The Silver Maple tree has been removed for $711.75 with the funds coming from maintenance fund.
The Dex Phone Book ad will no longer have the web site. It will have the Cemetery's name, address,
and phone number. Under cemeteries in the Seattle Yellow Directory, the ad costs $374.40 per year.
The ad in the Greater Snohomish County Yellow Pages costs $279. per year. The Seattle Internet
Yellow Pages' ad costs $423. for a total of $1,076.40 which comes out of the Cemetery's advertizing
budget.
Rich asked Valerie Claypool of the Chamber of Commerce why the Cemetery is not listed by the
City of Edmonds as Edmonds Cemetery in the Chamber's Guide to Edmonds for no cost. We have to join
the Chamber for $179.50 a year if we want to advertize our events with the Chamber's events.
There is a new policy about Boards and Commissions' email records from the state. All Boards will
have access to our emails for 2 years. Rich will work with the IT on this. Anyone working with the
City of Edmonds, including volunteers, will get emails from the City and not personal emails for any
Board business.
Rich got 2 of the 8 seasonal workers from last year. He will have Staff help Cliff get the Cemetery
ready for Memorial Day.
Old Business:
Distribution of Cemetery Brochures:
Dale took brochures to the Alderwood Heritage Association Cottage and he will take some to the
Lynnwood Visitors' Bureau.
Saturday Market May 11th:
Lisa announced that we will cancel with Gerry Freeland having a table at the Saturday Market.
Memorial Day Planning:
Dale, Patrick, Sally, and Melissa = The Memorial Day Committee. All is going well with their planning.
Dale met with Mayor Earling who will talk about his visit to the Korean Memorial in Washington D.C.
Dale went over the Program and said that it is ready to be printed. The Committe will meet again on the
1st Thursday of May. Lisa thanked the Commitee and Melinda for getting the dates changed on the
banners. Board members should get to the Cemetery at 9:30 AM on Memorial Day. Bob Stevenson will
do parking with the Boy Scouts. They will also put up and take down the chairs.
Walk Back In Time, July 18th:
Melissa's sister, Kate, will take pictures when she is not being the ghost of Carrie Astell Yost.
Bob Stevenson will be a lumberjack. The ghost of George Brackett will be back. Christopher
Columbus Cook will talk about his grandfather. Larry Vogel will be James Brady. Sally will do the
introductions. Perhaps flowers or flags will be put on the featured ghosts' graves.
Satisfacton Surveys:
Melissa handed out the second batch of survey results. Melissa will put these results in her quarterly
report to the City Council. We need to talk to Carrie at the May meeting about the rules and
regulations for endowment care.
Museum Newsletter:
Dave Bulow who is the membership liason for the Edmonds Museum Society said we can put
announcements about Memorial Day and the Walk Back In Time in their newsletter. Also maybe WBIT
characters in their costumes could stand on the Museum steps during some of the Saturday Markets.
Melissa will write an article about WBIT for the Museum's Newsletter. Maybe Sally's husband can
make a poster to advertize the WBIT. Perhaps we can place fliers for it on the Museum's table at the
Saturday Market. Sally proposed and Dale seconded that we take $30. from the advertizing budget
to send 2 people to the Museum's Benefit for the opening of the Saturday Market on Friday, May 3rd.
Motion passed.
New Business:
New Board Members:
Dwaine Weisse was interviewed by the Board members. He was nominated as a Voting Member and
Joyce Donaldson as an Alternate Member. (Hoggins/Beck) Motion passed. Lisa will call them. Carrie
will advise the Mayor about them.
ADJOURNMENT: Motion to adjourn made by Johnson/Harrison at 5:50 PM.
Minutes submitted by Melinda Beck, Secretary.
