2018-11-15 Cemetery Board MinutesCity of Edmonds Edmonds Memorial Cemetery Board Meeting Minutes November 15, 2018 4 pm Frances Anderson Center Call to Order Chair Jerry Janacek called the meeting to order at 4:05 pm. Members present: Staff Present: Betty Gaeng Rich Lindsay Jerry Janacek Tracy Little Joan Longstaff Members Absent: Guests: Melissa Johnson, Excused Approval of Minutes: October 18, 2018 minutes were approved by the Board, as corrected. Chair Report: • A statement of gratitude was made to Cliff Edwards, Sexton, for his dedication — especially on Halloween. He has monitored the cemetery every Halloween for 26 years, and has done so without compensation. Additionally, he places crosses and flags at veterans' graves on Veterans' Day. • A listing of board meeting dates and events for 2019 was presented and distributed to the members. The Memorial Day event will be May 27, and the Walk Back in Time event will be July 25. Financial Report: • The September Financial Transaction Summary was reviewed by the Board. Staff Report: • Sexton's report available and reviewed. • Cemetery mapping project getting close to completion — hopefully by year-end. • Columbarium repair still to be completed. The hold up is in finding someone to do the work. Selected five past teachers, subject to location. Some family permissions have been given; will work on the rest. Rich will provide Cliff with the list of names so he can locate them. Betty presented the work she has done so far on the booklet of bios. The large number of past teachers was surprising. Discussed the possibility of using the trust funds to produce the pamphlet. A possible theme for the 2020 Walk Back in Time was discussed, namely doctors and nurses. • Elected the officers who were placed in nomination at the October meeting. They are: Jerry Janacek, Chair; Betty Gaeng, Vice Chair; and Melissa Johnson, Secretary. New Business: • Betty will be honored at the Lynnwood City Council meeting on November 26 as the "Lynnwood Historian". Some of our members will plan to attend. • Joan mentioned that the Rotary lunch meeting on November 20 will be honoring veterans, and that some of our members might want to attend. • Continued discussion on recruiting two new board members. • Jerry presented a List of accomplishments for 2018. They are: • Memorial Day — very successful, and beautiful weather • Addition of the Memorial Monument to the cemetery • Walk Back in Time — also very successful, with approximately 55 in attendance • Progress on the mapping project • Betty's excellent articles in the Beacon and on My Edmonds News. • Dale Hoggins' participation on the board — and that he was honored in My Edmonds News • Early planning for 2019 Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 by Jerry Janacek.
