1. GHG inventory report by Nicole Sanders
Nicole worked 35-40 hours per week for two months to prepare the report. The committee
briefly discussed portions of the report, including reasons behind Edmonds' generally low
emissions levels, which Nicole noted in the "Reflections" section on page 50. Other cities have
freeways, airports, big industries, etc. that are counted in their emissions numbers; however,
Edmonds residents share in the larger regional picture because they travel to other cities, go to
the airport, etc. Hank mentioned a concern with the low PUD numbers discussed on pages 23
and 24 of the report and the ability to make future reductions using low base numbers. Janice
requested a list of acronyms for the next version of the report. She noted that the residential
numbers don't include multifamily residential; perhaps the City code can be changed for
multifamily in order to encourage people to reduce and conserve. Hank suggested that the
report be reviewed in detail prior to presenting it to the City Council. He also suggested that the
committee hear opposing points of view to the global -warming debate. Regarding commute
data, Rob indicated that the portion of commutes inside Edmonds is included in the report.
Highway 99 is also included, which includes non-residents using the highway. Gary mentioned
that we'll likely look at regional numbers once all cities have published their reports.
2. Work session with City Council regarding sustainability element of the comp plan
Gary mentioned that the work session is on September 23 and encouraged all committee
members to attend. Gary will begin with a brief report and then we'll discuss with Council the
sustainability element and hear their comments.
Miscellaneous
Bob Freeman reminded everyone of the upcoming Sustainable Edmonds meetings on September
9 and 27.
