Presentation on PUD's energy initiatives by Garth Williams, Art Arneson, and Craig Collar A presentation was provided by Snohomish County PUD representatives addressing the steps PUD has recently taken and will be taking in the future to address climate change. Mr. Williams stated that the PUD Board of Commissioners adopted the Climate Change Policy in 2007, which recognizes that climate change is a global problem and states PUD's commitment to use natural resources wisely. Mr. Williams discussed PUD's strategies for achieving this policy. He also described the current sources of energy for PUD as well as PUD's goals for future renewable energy resources. Mr. Williams addressed the conservation programs that PUD has in place at both the residential and commercial levels, including incentives, rebates, and various other tools for assisting residential and commercial customers reduce their energy needs. Mr. Collar described the basics of how tidal and geothermal technologies work. 2. Update on Earth Day / Climate Conversation, April 22 Bob Freeman reported that staff and Sustainable Edmonds have been working together to organize the Edmonds Conversation on Climate Action event, which will be held on April 22 in the Brackett Room. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and the event will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will have two speakers: Chris Herman will discuss climate action at the household level and Aninditra Mitra will discuss climate action at the commercial level. During the event, participants will have an opportunity to discuss ideas for what individuals can do at home to increase energy efficiency and to discuss ideas for the entire city as well. Steve Fisher stated that staff and Sustainable Edmonds will open the event by presenting ClimateProtection/MeetingNotes04O2O9.doc what Edmonds has been doing to address climate change and to discuss our next step, which is to develop a Climate Action Plan for the city, which is Milestone #3 of ICLEI's process. 3. GHG Emission Reduction Proposal Steve Bernheim was not present, so the discussion was tabled until the next meeting. Miscellaneous No miscellaneous items were discussed.
