Minutes approved by consensus with no changes Earth Day 2013 1. Bob Freeman discussed the CPC sponsoring a large Earth Day event with a high profile speaker. Some suggestions for speakers: (1) Dennis Hayes, Bullitt Foundation President and founder of Earth Day; (2) William Ruckelshaus, former U.S. EPA Administrator and Washington State advisory official; (3) Gov. Jay Inslee; or KC Golden of Climate Solutions. Discussed the type of event, location, and date. Earth Day 2013 is April 22nd so event should be planned around that day. Plaza Room is a good venue as the City can use it for free, it holds up to 200 people, and has outside space. It was determined that a subcommittee should be created for this event. Bob Freeman will take the lead at this time with the idea that a co-chair will be found to help with the process. Val Stewart has contacts with Dennis Hayes and William Rickelshaus. There was discussion about what the content of the event should be. Possibly a two -pronged approach with headliner speaker discussing worldwide issue of global warming and what's being done and possibly a seconder speaker to discuss what's being done at a local level and local level successes. Cynthia Pruitt said that the previous outreach committee had this on their list of ideas so she's happy to see the committee taking this up. She feels that we should focus on local success stories and work on getting more volunteers involved — idea being each committee member recruit at one person. Val said she would like to see the CPC promote the program. Steve Fisher recommended highlight information in the city newsletter and on the city's website. Val said SunstainableWorks website has a lot of information regarding successes. Cynthia Pruitt asked the committee if it would be alright for the outreach committee to do some sidework on this project — they will work directly with Val on this.
