Subcommittee & Member Reports
Cynthia Pruitt summarized the interview that she and Jim Stevens conducted of Steve Bernheim regarding
his experience with making energy improvements to his home and office. Mr. Bernheim installed solar
panels at his home, which eliminated his electricity bill. He uses a bicycle or electric vehicle whenever
possible in order to decrease his dependency on foreign oil. Mr. Bernheim participated in the free energy
audits offered by Sustainable Works for his home and office. Cynthia and Jim provided a copy of the
interview to the group and commented that they would like to put a synopsis of their interview in the
City's newsletter as a success story. They plan to conduct another interview or two in the next month.
Rebecca Wolfe commented that she has been teaching English as a second language and has been using
writings on environmental issues for her lessons.
Val Stewart shared her thoughts about moving forward with Sustainable Works. There has been
reluctance from the group to partner with Sustainable Works because of the bad experiences that some
members of the group had with the audits and energy efficiency upgrades made at their homes. Val
suggested working with Eco-Schools instead of Sustainable Works. Eco-Schools provides audits for
schools in topics such as energy, transportation, etc. Schools can choose what area they want to focus on.

Puget Sound Energy Presentation
Jackson Taylor, Energy Efficiency Outreach Coordinator, with Puget Sound Energy made a Power Point
presentation to the group. Mr. Taylor discussed PSE's commitment to energy efficiency and described
some of PSE's renewable energy sources. He described the increased efficiency of using natural gas when
compared to electricity. Mr. Taylor also described PSE's Carbon Balance program and explained that PSE
does not currently have a program for new multi -family buildings because such programs are not cost-
effective for PSE.
