Next meeting date — June 6, 2013 @ g am, Brackett Room Meeting Minutes April 4, 2013 Attendees: Jen Machuga, Hank Landau, Carolyn Chapel, Rob Chave, Val Stewart, Howard Chermak, Jim Stevens, Rebecca Wolfe, Carolyn LaFave Guests: NONE Subcommittee & Member Reports 1. Jim Stevens reported on success story project that he and Cynthia Pruitt have been working on. #1 success story w/Steve Bernheim finished up. Article w/picture to Carolyn for newsletter. #2 success story is scheduled for next week w/Strom Peterson. Story will highlight what he's done for sustainability from a business perspective. It was recommended that the stories should go on website and also to other media sources. Hank Landau recommended the articles be given catchy titles. It was mentioned that we need to interview some lower profile people as well. Outreach group is meeting on an as needed basis. Energy efficiency success stories. Val Stewart said she would like to join the success story group. Would like to help funnel info to the staff for website and also be involved with displays. Jen said some engineering staff have CPC-MeetingAgenda130502.doc I ideas for the display. Rob suggested setting up a meeting. Jen will set-up a meeting. Howard Chermak and Val Stewart will also talk about permitting incentives. 4. Hank Landau said he would a review of committees and programs at an upcoming meeting so we can determine which committees are discontinued and which are still working on projects. He also would like to see the greenhouse gas survey completed and reported on as well as updates on the ESCO progress. 5. Howard talked about a remodeling company out of Oregon that offers free energy audits. He is going to do some research on their program because he thinks it fits into our mission. 6. Hank Landau commented on how the production of natural gas is losing money. Producers are looking at converting some of the plants on the gulf coast to exporting plants. Future could be more isolated areas getting natural gas. It said he finds it disturbing to offer incentives to companies to drill for natural gas because costs will be passed along to future generations. 7. Rebecca Wolfe told the group that today at 11 there is a webinar— Beyond Natural Gas 1.5. She will send info to Carolyn who will send out. Rebecca also discussed the Sky River and told everyone to check out this website www.savetheskyriver.org. 8. Jim Stevens discussed getting the ESCO project passed at the City Council meeting. Some of the projects will be: a. Replace Yost pool boiler b. Replace 5 rooftop units at are at Senior Center c. The majority of the rest of project is focused on exterior lighting; a lot of led replacing shoebox. It was asked if the fishing pier was on the list — Jim said no. Hank said the pier could be a great demonstration project for solar lighting. d. Projects will be starting late spring early summer. e. Waiting for contract for ESCO before releasing information to public. 9. Val Stewart talked with Mayor and suggested that the committee have co-chairs. Rob suggested a staff person and a committee person. Val is happy to step into that position. Rob will be the staff co-chair. Val discussed a few organizational items. Since everyone is so busy we should look at restructuring meeting time. Possibly having task groups meet before the meeting and then the whole group meeting. She asked for thoughts on the matter. Rebecca Wolfe suggested we send out an email polling the group. Val will work on this and send along to Carolyn for distribution. General consensus at the meeting was that we need to keep the meeting length at an hour to provide enough time for reports from everyone. 10. It was reported that Edmonds United Methodist Church will celebrate Earth Day on Sunday, April 7t" with services at 9 and 10:30 am and an Expo in the lower level of church between 10 am — noon on public transportation. 11. Rebecca Wolfe is going to a convention on water for cities on May 15-16. Would like to report in June. 12.
