Question from Cynthia Pruitt
1. In response to Cynthia Pruitt's suggestion at the June meeting to start each meeting with a
question posed to the committee, Cynthia started this meeting off with the following question:
"what's central to you?
a. Cynthia —exciting hearing success stories
b. Rebecca —excited to work with young people educating them
c. Steve — outreach and education to get kids and getting students more engaged in
understanding the connections
d. Val —taking action towards more sustainable future, also educating students and decision
makers and making sure they hear the people with the knowledge.
e. Rob —trying to convince people of cause and affect
f. Howard — working with contractors who are working in the business and seeing how they
build more sustainably.
g. Janice — saving the planet, time is against us — pick the ones you can educate and move
forward as fast as we can. Push ahead, without reports and studies, more results.
h. Bob — reading about new studies about leveling off of carbon dioxide. They have
determined that this has come from the voluntary adoption of all kinds of provisions for
saving energy by general public. Think about this when you get discouraged because in
fact because of all of our collective actions we are getting somewhere.
Upcoming Speakers
1. Val has scheduled Aaron Adelstein to speak at the September meeting. Aaron is the executive
director of the Built Green program of King and Snohomish Counties Master Builders Association.
He will speak on sustainable building. Val asked committee members to email to her any topics
you would like Aaron to address.
2. For the October meeting Val suggested we review our most current outline to see if we are
headed in the right direction.
Solar Permitting Presentation
1. Howard discussed the over the counter solar permitting process that the City has instituted. It
was suggested that some publicity be sent out addressing this. Rob volunteered to write an article
for fall city newsletter. Cynthia said they would look at doing a success story on this topic. Howard
will connect with other contractors to see if any of them have gone through the process and
would agree to be interviewed for the success story piece.
City's Green Fleet
1. Val presented an article that she wrote regarding the City's green fleet.
Subcommittee Reports
1. Outreach group has interviewed the Methodist Church and they have a draft in the works. It was
suggested that it would be nice to give them an award.
