meeting bi-monthly and that the next committee meeting will be the 1" Thursday in March.

Earth Day Awards/Ideas
CPC- MeetingAgenda140306
Earth Day Awards
a. Group suggested keeping the awards very simple and agreed that it is important to
recognize those that have already accomplished something, such as PCC, even if it wasn't
within the past year.
b. Group discussed putting an article in the Mayor's quarterly newsletter. Rob suggested
putting an article in next quarter's newsletter in early April so that it would be close to
Earth Day. Val offered to put an article in the January newsletter also to start getting the
word out about the committee's accomplishments.
c. It was discussed that the committee can get the word out about the Earth Day awards by
speaking at a Council meeting (televised), sending a press release to the newspapers, and
the City can send out an email.
d. Rebecca offered to check with the Edmonds schools to see if they have made any
accomplishments that could be recognized.
e. Hank offered to check with the Chamber of Commerce to see if they know of any
businesses that deserve recognition.
f. The Incentives Subcommittee will come up with the list of categories for the Earth Day
awards prior to the March committee meeting. It was discussed that certificates of
recognition could be done too.
Review of Accomplishments 2013
1. Val went over the list of accomplishments from the December 4, 2013 meeting chart. Cynthia
would like for us to clarify who did what — city/CPC etc. so it doesn't look like we are trying to take
credit for things we didn't do. Rob explained that the CPC acts as a forum or clearing house,
coordinating the efforts of other organizations and reporting on the communities successes.
Cynthia moved to approve list with following changes:
a. Items listed with no category heading will change to Community Health and an added
introduction such as: things the committee knows are happening in the community
It was seconded by Hank Landau and passed unanimously.
Reviewed Climate Action Plan
1. Janice & Bob Freeman will draft some language to address waterfront (sea level rise) which they
feel is an important topic that is getting forgotten.
2. It was recommended that a presentation by Mr. Gammon would be good for Earth Day
3. Rebecca suggested possibly putting together a panel for Earth Day. Rebecca recommends
providing some solutions.
4. It was recommended that we also reflect on the Strategic Action Plan
Moving Forward
1. Focus on green business awards and sustainable heroes success stories
2. Cynthia volunteered to create a survey/poll to help prioritize our focus for 2014
Elections
1. Cynthia Pruitt stated that she is willing to co-chair the committee for 2014. It was moved and
seconded and passed unanimously.
2. Group discussed start time of meeting. Rebecca Wolfe moved to change the start time to 8:45
am. It was seconded and passed unanimously.

1. Success story group: Hank reported on PCC. Edmonds is the largest PCC store. It is platinum;
salmon safe; 92% of materials were recycled; they have a water conservation/heating system that
uses heat exchangers; they have an electric recharging station; they also have a program where
they convert food scraps into liquid fertilizer which saves money and make money by selling the
end product.
2. Steve Fisher discussed the Foster presentation and coordinating with the Tree Board on this.
Next meeting March 6, 2014 @ 8:45 am — Fourtner Room.
Meeting adjourned at 10:00 am.
