Announcements: Earth Day Proclamation, NW Seed project, member's announcements to Minutes Meeting Minutes March 6, 2014 Attendees: Bob Freeman, Janice Freeman, Kristiana Johnson, Cynthia Pruitt, Val Stewart, Jen Machuga, Steve Fisher, Mayor Earling, Carolyn LaFave Guest: Alexandra Sawyer & Linda Irvine of NWSeed, and Steve Bernheim Meeting was called to order @ 8:46 am Approval of Minutes/Agenda 1. Agenda revision — NWSEED presentation was moved up to items #2 2. Val Stewart motioned to approve minutes as written and Steve Fisher seconded the motion. Minutes of the 1/9/14 CPC meeting were unanimously approved as written. NWSEED Presentation 1. Linda Irvine discussed the solarized WA initiative. Entails group rates for rooftop solar. Currently seven campaigns in Puget Sound region with approximately 470 homes. Will plan to do ffree solar workshops to show people how it works and how much it costs. They will be a pre -negotiated C PC- M eeti n gAge nd a 140306 group rateprice. At this time they are reaching out to interested groups to partner with. They need, want, and would like people to help. This will be a volunteer based effort. 2. Alex Sawyer— NWSEEED was awarded a Snohomish County PUD grant. They will need volunteer support in the following areas: 1) contractor selection process which will be 1-2 month commitment and 2) community engagement which will entail spreading the word in Edmonds & Lynnwood. Training will be provided for both committees along with necessary handouts and information. Please let them know if you are interested or know people who are. Will need people to help plan for the kickoff training. They are proposing a 1 - 3hr kick-off or a few shorter orientations. Cynthia asked Carolyn to send email to past CPC members asking for their help. 3. Committee asked about the Sunergize Edmonds program — this is a contractor led program. The NWSEED program is a community led program. 4. Janice Freeman asked where solar panels used will be coming from. Two different panels are used one made in Washington and one made in Oregon. 5. Councilmember Johnson suggested that the group go out to people who have already embraced the solar movement. Second Co -Chair Nominations 1. Second co-chair nominations were opened to floor. Cynthia Pruitt nominated Val Stewart. Val accepted. Jen Machuga seconded the nomination. The motion passed unanimously Review of Survey Monkey Poll 1. Cynthia Pruitt went over the results of her survey (see attached) a. Val Stewart said that the fact that only 5 people responded speaks to the fact that we need to find new members. b. Steve Fisher suggested that the group look at the top 2 or 3 and make these our priorities. Cynthia Pruitt said she can you live with these priorities c. Janice Freeman said we CAN'T ignore addressing sea level rise. Cynthia responded that we can find a way to try and roll it in to one of the top priorities. d. Val Stewart also said that the top 3 priorities make sense to her. e. Group discussed which other priorities could be combined with these top 3: It was decided that Item # 1 & #8 could be combined; Items #9, 10, 11, 12, and 13 could be sub- categories under item #1; Items #3 & #5 could be combined. Cynthia Pruitt asked for members to choose which item number sub -committee they would like to be on: Community Outreach: Cynthia Pruitt, Val Stewart, Jen Machuga, Steve Fisher. Will ask Rebecca Wolfe if she would like to join this committee. Item #2 Lifestyle: Steve Fisher Item #3 Building: Jim Stevens, Howard Chermak Hank Landau, Jim Stevens, and Cynthia Pruitt will continue their work on sustainability heroes and success stories. Sustainable Edmonds Forum 1. Steve Bernheim provided information to the group about an event Sustainable Edmonds was hosting at the Senior Center on April 30t" from 6-9 pm. There will be guest speakers and local elected. Forum is to about climate action plan. What's been identified and accomplished; are we putting our priorities in the right place; how to bring community together. Ffocus is on education on climate protection plan. (flier attached) C PC- M eeti n gAge nd a 140306 Committee Reports 1. Community outreach: Fasttracking is current in place and being used by the city. Val Stewart will work on displays as part of outreach piece. 2. Earth Day is April 22nd. Jen Machuga & Steve Fisher are working on green business pledge. They explained that it would entail businesses pledging their commitment to maintain green practices. Councilmember Johnson suggested we do a proclamation. She also said that she and councilmember Bloom are thinking they'd like to do something to promote recycling for this year's earth day. Steve Fisher said they might possibly be able to look at data to see who is doing this. Councilmember Johnson said she and councilmember Bloom will meet with Steve to discuss. 3. Janice Freeman said she went to the recent town hall and discussed with Marko Liias about solar and she is working with him on this. CPC- Meeti ngAgenda 140306
