Welcome to new members: Cynthia reviewed why the Committee is here. She summarized the action items and strategies within the Climate Change Action Plan and explained that recently the C PC- M eeti n gAge nd a 140904 Committee reviewed all past documents and came up with a list of priorities to focus on. The four main items that the subcommittees are working on include community outreach, lifestyle, buildings, and success stories. Committee members introduced themselves. Cynthia offered to send the Climate Change Action Plan as well as the strategies agreed to last winter to all committee members. Update on NW Seed 1. This is a project sponsored by a non-profit organization, Northwest SEED, offering solar improvements to residents in Edmonds, Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace. Two committees, the Outreach and the Contractor selection committees, have been meeting to plan and promote upcoming workshops that introduce people to how these projects can be done economically using the pre -selected contractor. The projects could have as fast as a 5-year "payback." The first workshop is July 16. Councilmember Johnson asked if there could be a presentation at the July 22 council workshop. Jen offered to contact Meghan Barrier, with Northwest SEED to see if she would be able to do a presentation. Cynthia will send the flyers with upcoming workshop dates to the CPC. Briefine on Article on CPC Activities 1. Barbara Tipton drafted an article with Val Stewart giving an overview of the Committee's activities and strategic goals for this year. It will be published in the Mayor's quarterly newsletter. Change Meeting Times 1. The committee discussed any concerns with the current meeting time (i.e. some people would like to participate but can't due to work conflicts and a student representative could possibly participate if the meeting time did not conflict with school hours) and decided that it seems to work for most people; we will not change the time. We will ask high school students in the fall if they would like to be part of/ attend the subcommittee meetings. Subcommittee Reports 1. Lifestyle: The city is reviewing its comprehensive plan, including the "Utility" element which has a solid waste section. We discussed including yard waste goals for Edmonds in that element. In addition, the Parks and Recreation element currently calls for including gardens in dense urban areas. 2. Sustainable Heroes: Cynthia reported that this subcommittee had not met. She will contact Val and Hank about potential stories they already have access to that could be published. Val suggested interviewing the homeowner in Edmonds who was recently on the Green Homes Tour. 3. Community Outreach: The Green Business Pledge was taken by 10 businesses in total. The subcommittee is working on getting decals that show the pledge was taken. Also they met with the PUD and learned of resources that are available to businesses (e.g. massive discounts on light bulbs). 4. Buildings: There was no report from the Buildings subcommittee. 5. Mike volunteered for the Sustainable Heroes and Outreach subcommittees. Josh volunteered for the Buildings and Lifestyle subcommittees Friends of Cedar River Watershed Video 1. Val showed us a video of a project coordinated by high school students.
