Announcements Informational to Minutes All Climate Committee September 3, 2015 — Meeting Notes Meeting started 8:47 a.m. Attending: Sandra Distelhorst, Josh Thompson, Jim Stevens, Hank Landau, Mike Nelson, Zen Wolfang, Tony Marzano, Rob Chave, Steve Fisher, Cynthia Pruitt, Mayor Dave Earling Minutes: Steve Fisher moved and Josh Thompson seconded a motion to approve the minutes. Motion passed unanimously. Introductions: The members introduced themselves with a description of their roles outside the committee and what interested them in serving on the committee. Comprehensive Plan: Rob Chave described the Critical Areas chapter that was presented to the City Council last Tuesday. The chapter proposes that structures be two feet higher than the base flood level, due to sea level rise. Hank Landau wondered whether storm surge had been taken into account, also. Jim Stevens appointed out that King tides have resulted in serious flooding in the past in Edmonds in addition to storm surge. Subcommittee reports: a. Green Resource room — staff reported that it is under construction and should be complete by the end of the year. Sustainable and low emission materials are being used to the extent possible. b. Zero Waste — Steve reported that the he has drafted a resolution for the council which has yet to be reviewed. CM Nelson did say that he and CM Johnson would like to see measurable goals added. c. Green Buildings/Business Pledge — Steve reported that there is an interest to continue offering businesses to take the Green Business Pledge and perhaps look at expanding to a further recognition level. Jim Stevens reported that he completed another Sustainability Heroes interview recently and will be submitting it for the newsletter. Zen indicated an interest in the Green Buildings/Sustainable development subcommittee plus Zero Waste. Sandra was also interested in the Zero Waste subcommittee and Tony was interested in the Green Business subcommittee. Steve will get in contact with all of these members soon. Announcements: Hank discussed the work that local churches are doing around the Pope's recent announcements supporting the reduction of GHG. There will be a panel discussion at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church on October 13 at 7:00 p.m. Meeting adjourned 9:55 a.m.
