2018-05-10 Edmonds Downtown Alliance (BID) MinutesEdmonds • Downtown ALLIANCE May 10, 2018 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM Brackett Room, City Hall Meeting called to order at 8:06 am Board Members/Administration in attendance: Kiersten Christensen, Carrie Hulbert, Matt McCulloch, Petra Rousu, Jenny Shore, James Spangler, Mark VonGunten City of Edmonds representatives in attendance: Cindi Cruz, Patrick Doherty Ed! Members/Guests: Judy Salinas (Glazed & Amazed), Pam Stuller (Walnut Street Coffee), Joy Rai (Zinc), Greg Urban (Edmonds Chamber of Commerce), Dave Teitzel (Edmonds City Councilmember) Public Comment: none President's Report: • Approval of previous meeting minutes: April 26, 2018: A note was made to correct spelling errors in the minutes. Matt moved to approve the meeting minutes with corrections; Petra seconded. All in favor, none opposed. • Recap from Kiersten on Revitalize WA conference. 1. Does our Board adequately represent downtown businesses? Restaurants and Attorneys are not represented at all. We need to work on involving these businesses. 2. What is the value that Ed! provides to its membership? "We are you" was a tag line at the conference - we need to reinforce to member businesses that we are a volunteer board made up of business owners working on everyone's behalf. • Annual Meeting Results: Carrie Hulbert produced a slideshow report showing results of voting on issues at the annual meeting. It is available on the Ed! website: httr)://edmondsdowntown.ora/wr)-content/uploads/2018/05/2018-Annual-Mta- Results.pdf • We need to work on finishing up the 2018 work plans in our individual committees and start planning for next year's budgets and goals. New Businesses added to the BID: None Committee Updates: • Marketing: "Love, Edmonds" was the most popular "tag line" voted on by members from the annual meeting. An RFP was sent out by Kimberly Koenig. A real estate focused article is next up on the website. • Appearance & Environment (Parking): Board members are meeting with another business to discuss after-hours parking. • Communication and Outreach: Per Matt the budget is on track, and they are working on increasing community involvement. • Professional Business Resources: Jacob Comstock will remain, but we need a new Board Member on this committee. • Grant Program: A letter of inquiry has been received by the committee for the "Where's Waldo" program. • Administration: The Board will meet only once per month during the summer. City of Edmonds Update: • A new market/restaurant is due to open in the next two weeks. • Local newspapers covered the additional parking spots generated in downtown. • Patrick is moving forward on hiring Creating Stellar Stores and Storefronts to conduct a seminar in Edmonds and urged the Ed! Board to participate financially. • The City Council is beginning to consider a 15-foot high height limit for the first floor in BD1. • The City is applying to become a Creative District through the State of Washington. James Spangler will be the Ed! representative on this project. • The Diversity Committee of the City of Edmonds will be working on inclusion of the business community in its projects. • Cindi Cruz reported that Edmonds Spring Fest will take place at the Edmonds Civic Field on May 12t" and will include many independent craft vendors.
