Presentation on the Edmonds Museum Remodel
Mr. Lien reminded the Commissioners that, at their last meeting, they granted a Certificate of Appropriateness for the
skylight and the two doors that face the alley. However, they held off on granting a Certificate of Appropriateness for the
windows pending further investigation. He and Commissioner Waite briefly shared the results of the investigation. Chair
Waite concluded that, based on the investigation findings, the proposed windows would meet or exceed the Secretary of the
Interior's Standards. Mr. Lien pointed out that the Building Official gave credit for the skylight to provide a slight break on
the windows relative to the energy code requirements.
COMMISSIONER WAITE MOVED THAT THE COMMISSION APPROVE A CERTIFICATE OF
APPROPRIATENESS FOR THE WINDOW REPLACEMENT PORTION OF THE EDMONDS MUSEUM
REMODEL. COMMISSIONER ALLBERY SECONDED THE MOTION, WHICH CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
Last call for 2018 Calendar Changes
Ms. Cunningham advised that calendar is ready to be printed. The intent is to order 3,000 calendars, with the option of
printing more if needed. She agreed to notify the Commissioners when the calendars are ready for distribution.
Gerdon House (209 Caspers Street)
Commissioner Waite asked if the Commission discussed where the sign would be placed on the property. Mr. Lien recalled
that the intent was to place the sign at the entry to the property, close to the street. Mr. Lien announced that the nomination
will go before the City Council for final approval on October 17''. Chair Raetzloff and Commissioner Deiner-Karr indicated
they would attend the City Council meeting to represent the application.
ACTION ITEMS
Yost House (658 Maple Street
The Commission compared recent photographs of the home at 658 Maple Street to a photograph that was taken in 1909 and
briefly discussed the changes that have occurred. Ms. Cunningham advised that a nomination form has already been filled
out for the property, and it was included in the BOLA Report. Commissioner Deiner-Karr agreed to obtain additional
information from the County Assessor's Office. Commissioner Waite agreed to visit the site and report back.
Sam Yost House (536 Pine Street)
Commissioner Allbery reported on her unsuccessful effort searching the Museum files to find information about the property
at 536 Pine Street. The Commission viewed photographs and briefly discussed the property, its location and the changes that
have been made since the home was originally built. Commissioner Dciner-Karr agreed to look for additional information
from the County Assessor's Office, and Commissioner Waite agreed to visit the site and report his findings.
645 Fir Street
Council Member Teitzel said he recently spoke with the owner of the home at 645 Fir Street, who is interested in placing the
property on the Register. He would like to do some improvements soon, mainly with the foundation. He agreed not to move
forward on the project until he has met with a Commissioner to learn the benefits of listing the home on the Register. It was
noted that the home was included in the most recent survey of historic properties. Council Member Teitzel agreed to follow
up with the property owner and report back to the Commission. Commissioner Deiner-Karr agreed to look for additional
information about this property, and Commissioner Allbery agreed to search the Museum's records for pictures, as well.
