• The first is to a holiday/auction by the Japan American Society. No one is able to attend.
• The second is an event at the Japanese Consulate to celebrate the Emperor's Birthday, on
Thursday, December 8. Michele Fellows and Marlene Friend will attend.
Continuing Business:
Calendar Planning: Review of the calendar and changes for November through January. A column was
added for the Mayor's office/visit planning. This is still a work in progress.
Student Rep applicant update: Dar Williams cannot be the student rep because his residence is not in
Edmonds. He was asked and agreed to become a regular commissioner. He will be interviewed by the
Mayor.
ALT Status: Michelle Rockstead is the new ALT. She will go to Hekinan at the end of March, 2017.
Surveys/Michele Fellows: Michele is sending out surveys to students, hosts and commissioners.

School Outreach:
• Lunch and Learns: Pam Erickson — King's School, Nov 2. More will be done in January. Karyn will
do Meadowdale and Michele will go to Mountlake Terrace.
• Classroom Visits: Marlene Friend — Marlene has taken fliers to schools and although there was
some interest, no one has contacted her. She will try to go through PTA groups.
2017 Travel to Japan Package: Carolyn said this has been approved by the school district for
distribution.
2017 Chaperone Recruitment: As of this meeting, one application has been received. The deadline is
January 17, 2017. Carolyn will resend the release.
Edmonds Sister City News: This is a work in progress. Patrick presented a mock up of what it might look
like. The first one will be published in January. It will be online.

Next Meeting: It was decided that the December meeting will be cancelled. Instead, commissioners are
invited to attend a dinner at Arnie's Restaurant in Edmonds. This will be a "social meeting." It will be at
6:30pm on Monday, December 12, 2016. The next meeting will be the business retreat. It will be on
Monday, January 23, 2017. It will be from 6:00-8:OOpm in the Brackett Room at Edmonds City Hall.
