2) Roll Call/Introductions
3) AAgproval of Agenda
4) Audience Comments (We respectfully request that guests limit comments to 5 minutes or less)
5) Approval of Minutes
November meeting minutes were distributed via email. Please bring corrections/comments. There was not an official
December meeting due to the lack of a quorum, so there are no December minutes to approve.
6) Old Business/Discussion (20 minutes)
• City Attorney presentation on legal requirements for Tree Board members was attempted in December, but due to
the limited number of Tree Board members present, we postponed. Looking at March or April when we will
hopefully have a full board again.
• Because Joan Bloom is no longer on the City Council, we will be getting a new City Council Liaison. We will learn
in the coming weeks who that will be.
7) New Business (70 minutes)
• Revisit event planning for 2016. Would like to have at least two planting events and two educational/outreach
events (those could overlap). What do we want to do to keep board members engaged and build positive
image/momentum for the Tree Board?
• Tree Board Staff support from the City for 2016: the City budget includes $6,000 for staff/contractor support, plus
$3,000 other spending (events, promotions, education, etc.). Discuss how the money will be spent: note -taker?
contract staff -person like Julia Munger? Discuss priorities for the staff -person (TC USA cert, Arbor Day event
planning, etc.).
• Consider different venue for Tree Board meetings so we don't need a door monitor. Library or Frances Anderson
Center?
• Steve: Collaboration w/ Climate Protection Committee. Discussion of what types of partnering may be
desirable/possible in the future.
• Discussion of Planning Board member Daniel Robles' emailed article regarding means of achieving the goals of
tree preservation and fair governance.
• Barbara Chase: quick report on the planting at 8t" and Daley. Thank you for your dedication to the project.
• Tree Board presentation to City Council upcoming, probably in March. Discuss presentation topics.
• FYI: The City has a 2016 budget line item of $65,000 to start the Urban Forestry Management Plan. This is the
first of two equal parts that are expected to be spent in '16 and '17 to develop the plan. After that, the tree code
can come back up for discussion again. The Tree Board will be involved in an advisory/review capacity on the
plan.
