January 7, 2016
The Edmonds Citizens' Tree Board Meeting was called to order at 6:03 p.m. by Chair Steve
Hatzenbeler in the Brackett Room, 3rd Floor City Hall, 121 5th Avenue North, Edmonds, WA.

1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Hatzenbeler called the meeting to order.

5. Ronald Smith was present. He had no comments.
6. APPROVAL OF MINUTES -
Barbara Durr moved and Barb Chase seconded the Minutes to be approved as corrected. Motion
passed.
7. OLD BUSINESS
City attorney Jeff Taraday will make his presentation in March or April
8. NEW BUSINESS
a. Tree Board Member Input on Events/ educational outreach in 2016
b. The group wants to plan for an Arbor Day event at the Main St. emergency road to Shell
Creek area
c. They would like to do smaller projects such as replacing diseased trees near City Hall
d. Cass Turnbull as a speaker in an event open to the public

e. Doing a project with the schools was suggested.
f. Crane Stavig suggested inviting the public to suggest places for trees, possibly having a
contest.
g. Budget for Tree Board: $6,000 for staff/contractor support
$3,000 for events, prom otions,education etc.
Barbara Chase moved and Barb Durr seconded that we recommend to Development Services to
rehire Herrera & Associates' Julia Munger. Her tasks would be to coordinate Arbor Day event,
complete Tree City USA application and attend at least 3 Tree Board meetings. Tree Board
members would like a copy of the 2015 Tree City USA application
h. Possible Partnership with Edmonds Climate Protection Committee
Steve visited the climate protection com. Jed Marshall and Barbara Durr will attend the March
meeting to find out how to partner with the committee.mittee
Barbara Chase gave a report on the 8t" & Daley project. She will contact Rich Lindsay about
getting a sign to inform the public about the native planting project
j. The Tree Board will present at City Council in March or April. The board will work on ways to
publicize their events and plans for the year.
k. The City has $65,000 in budget for the Urban Forestry Management Plan which is expected
to be used as the basis for city tree plans/code. The board expects to be involved in an
advisory /review capacity....
9. Tree Board Member ,Staff Comments
Barbara Durr gave to Steve a copy of the Seattle Times article about a group responsible for
planting thousands of trees in Vancouver. It's a good article about what citizens can do to
promote and plant trees.
Kernen Lien has arranged for the board to meet in the Council Chambers for our next meeting
on February 4, 2016

With no further business, the Edmonds Citizens' Tree Board adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
