Meeting Notes
February 4, 2016
The Edmonds Citizens' Tree Board Meeting was called to order at 6:03 p.m. by Chair Steve
Hatzenbeler in the council chambers' Jury Room, 250 5t" Avenue North, Edmonds, WA.

1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Hatzenbeler called the meeting to order at 6:00.
2. ROLL CALL/INTRODUCTIONS
3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Barb Durr moved and Jed Marshall seconded that we approve the agenda. All approved
4. AUDIENCE COMMENTS
Vivian Olson was present. She has applied for the Tree Board and wants a balanced approach
about trees.
5. APPROVAL OF MEETING NOTES
They were approved with no revisions
6. OLD BUSINESS
The group approved 2016 events calendar
October 15 will be our major Arbor Day/Tree City USA event. We will plant trees in the area between
Main St. and the Shell Creek area along the Access Road. Jed Marshall will chair the event. Rich
Lindsay said we would need 20-25 people to plant. We want a festive event. It should also be
educational. Could include participation from Floretum Garden Club and Edmonds in Bloom.
Cass Turnbull will be a featured speaker in March / April. We hope to have "Right Tree, Right Place"
as the topic/theme. Barb Durr and Crane Stavig will chair. Will have refreshments, handouts.
Replacing the diseased trees in front of city hall is the third event. Steve Hatzenbeler will chair. He
will work with Rich Lindsay. Bowhall Maple trees will replace the diseased cherry trees.
We will have an information table at the Edmonds Summer Market. Barb Chase will contact museum
board member.
7. NEW BUSINESS
a. Barbara Durr has been in contact with Friends of Trees and a staff person from Edmonds
School District about a possible school project. A science project at the high school is one
idea. She also suggested working with a school area such as Edmonds Elementary for a
project.
b. Budget for Tree Board: $6,000 for staff/contractor support. Hiring a consultant for Tree City
USA who will attend three meetings: September, October, and November.
$3,000 for events, promotions, education, etc.
Tree Board members would like a copy of the 2015 Tree City USA application.
c. Possible Partnership with Edmonds Climate Protection Committee
Jed Marshall and Barbara Durr will attend the March meeting to find out how to partner with
the Climate Protection Committee.
d. The Tree Board will present at City Council in March. The board will work on ways to publicize
their events and plans for the year.
e. The City has $65,000 in 2016 budget and the same amount for 2017 for the Urban Forestry
Management Plan, which is expected to be used as the basis for city tree plans/code. The
board expects to be involved in an advisory/review capacity.
f. Steve presented six points he will present to the City Council about the Tree Board, including
various topics such as recapping the 2015 year and requesting changes in the way the Tree
Board is managed by the City.
8. Tree Board Member Comments
Barbara Chase will present at least monthly articles about good trees on My Edmonds News
9. ADJOURNMENT
With no further business, the Edmonds Citizens' Tree Board adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
