The Edmonds Citizens' Tree Board Meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Co -Chair Steve
Hatzenbeler in the City Council Chambers — Public Safety Complex, 250 5t" Avenue North, Edmonds,
WA.

3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
The following items were added to the agenda under New Business:
• Mayor's climate committee Chasing Big Foot Campaign
• Citizen question about Quaking Aspen
• Parcel development in South Edmonds
Agenda approved as amended.

5. APPROVAL OF MEETING NOTES
Meeting February 2, 2017 notes were approved.
6. OLD BUSINESS/DISCUSSION
a. Diane Buckshnis updated the status of the Ivy Clean Up at Hutt Park. Jennifer Leach, City Staff,
to follow up with details of Tree Board obligations.

b. Jed Marshall is working with Rich Lindsay, Park Maintenance Manager, for the tree tagging
event scheduled for May, 2017.
c. City Council presentation for the 2016 Tree Board Report will be presented by Steve
Hatzenbeler and Doug Petersen at the March 14, 2017 council meeting. All Tree Board
members are urged to attend. DNR representative will present Tree City USA and Growth
Award at the same time. Thank you Vivian Olson for arranging this presentation.
d. Discussion about the consultant's scope of work:
1. Time spent meeting with Tree Board.
2. Tangible items included Tree City Booklets and other educational material.
3. Tree Board will continue to look into more details.
e. 2017 Event Calendar was updated and approved by all Board Members.
7. NEW BUSINESS
a. Steve Hatzenbeler presented a citizen RFI about Quaking Aspen. Discussion resulted with the
recommendation that it isn't a good tree to use in this case because of its invasiveness.
b. Discussion about the Mayor's Climate Change Committee and their involvement with the Chasing
Big Foot Campaign. Diane Buckshnis will continue exploring how the Tree Board can be involved
with this Campaign.
c. Joe Scordino presented the Water Day Event scheduled for March 21, 2017, to be held at the
Holy Rosary Church. Steve Hatzenbeler will represent the Tree Board at this event.
Joe continued discussion about his school club "Students Saving Salmon" are working with
private property owners along Shell Creek. They have 400 trees available to plant along the
Creek to enhance salmon spawning. The Tree Board will keep in touch as the project
progresses.
d. The Tree Board alternate position was defined per the City Code. The new code coming up may
make changes.
e. A new plotted sub -division in South Edmonds had all the trees removed before construction
started. Kernen Lien, the Senior City Planner, explained how this happened.

With no further business, the Edmonds Citizens' Tree Board adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
