Hutt Park. Councilwoman Diane Buckshnis (and possibly Kristiana Johnson) will
work the table to in -process the volunteers. The park will be divided into quadrants
and someone knowledgeable about how to go about the ivy removal safely will be in

charge of each quadrant. A port -a -potty, dumpster, tents, tables, drinking water and
cups will be provided by the Parks Department. Tree Board Project Chair Diane
Buckshnis will shop for and provide: bars of some kind and perhaps clementine
oranges and/or bananas and/or cookies (these refreshments to be purchased from
the estimated $100-200 budget set aside from Tree Board funds for this event). Gail
Lovell is going to shop for coffee (and coffee condiments) at one of our local coffee
shops from the same budget- and she and Diane will coordinate to be sure that
between them we have the cups and napkins and wipes or hand sanitizer that we
need. Tree Board members should be at the event by 830 for the safety talk and to
be assigned where needed. The ivy pull event will last from 9-noon. It would be a
good idea to bring any extra gloves, pruners and trowels (all labeled with your name)
for the event.
B) Jed Marshall, as project chair of the tree tag educational outreach/ City of Edmonds
tree awareness project, is targeting a ten-day period in May for the tree tags to be
hung (likely May 10-20). He is working on the tag info- from the tree benefit
calculator and other sources- for trees at 5t" and Main and other locations. Other
board members were able to offer suggestions of where to go for the printing and
laminating within the $200 budget estimated for this project.
C) Gail Lovell, project chair for the Edmonds in Bloom garden tour collaboration re
trees in featured gardens, has already been hard at work visiting those featured
gardens and attempting to identify the trees (which is harder right now before they
get their foliage!). Since the ticket printing happens already in May, it was moved by
Doug Peterson, seconded by Barbara Chase and unanimously approved by the
Board that we contribute $200 to the Edmonds in Bloom Garden Tour Committee
toward the printing costs for the event.
D) The Tree Board presentation to Edmonds City Council on March 14t" was re -capped
by our co-chairs Steve and Doug. There was much appreciation and praise by the
board members in attendance (which was all of them) for how well Steve and Doug
represented the Board and our work this last year.
E) The scope of work for the consultant contract was discussed and arborist services
were added. This contract will be set up as an hourly contract (pay only for work
requested/ done). Tree City USA application is one of the other major tasks already
contained within the scope of work.
F) The Students Saving Salmon planting event happened on April 3rd and 4t". The Tree
Board was represented by Frank Caruso who worked on the 3rd. He re -capped the
event for the rest of us. There were 7 hard working students and 4 hard working
adults, including Joe Scordino and his wife, David Millette (and, of course, Frank). It
seems as if all involved- including the homeowners- enjoyed being a part of the
process of improving the salmon habitat with these plantings.
G) Councilwoman Buckshnis attended the first meeting of the Taming Bigfoot Program
with the Interfaith climate group. The program involves tracking "normal" living for a
month and then tracking another month of conservation -focused living and then
"winning" by the team with the greatest improvement. The Edmonds Citizens' Tree
Board will be endorsers of the event (we may or may not participate in any other
capacity). The event will probably be taking place in Jan, Feb and March 2018.

7. NEW BUSINESS
The Urban Forestry Management Plan (UFMP) is contracted for. We should be getting notice of the
public involvement sessions soon (we have heard almost nothing to date). Tree Board Members
reiterated a desire to be involved in the UFMP process, and have been told they will be involved;
however, the extent of the Tree Board's involvement is unclear at this time. Review of the RFP and
the City Council's agenda memo for the UFMP contract that was awarded to Davey stated that trees
on private property would not be a major focus of the UFMP. It seems to be a consensus (or at least
a majority) of Tree Board members who feel strongly that there is too much private property in
Edmonds to completely ignore trees on private property in the UFMP.
8. TREE BOARD MEMBER IDEAS AND COMMENTS
1) Steve Hatzenbeler, Bill Phipps and Gail Lovell all represented the Tree Board at the
water day event at Holy Rosary Church. The focus was minimizing bottled water use
and everyone who attended seemed to enjoy the event and find it worthwhile.
2) The annual Edmonds Water Shed event is May 6t". Jennifer Leach said she would
add us to the distribution list in case we want to participate in the future.
3) Jed Marshall took the time to look at our 2016 planting site and reported to the rest of
us how the new plantings are doing (good overall but some in need of staking). Diane
passed that info along to the parks department via email.
8. ADJOURNMENT
With no further business, the Edmonds Citizens' Tree Board adjourned at 8:04 p.m.
Next Meetings: Thursday, May 41" and Thursday, June 1, 6:00 p.m., Council Chambers.
