Purchase of trees for Arbor Day
Barbara reported that two trees were bought by her and Suzanne: a Japanese Stewartia
pseudocamellia and a Magnolia stellata.. Vine maples were not available. Doug has small
glorybowers which could be used and Suzanne has one small Cryptomeria..
.Farmers' Market
Dates are currently taken for free space. It was suggested that Barbara call Jerry, who coordinates
the Market, two weeks prior to Sept 22, when we want space for the Tree Board. Diane will provide a
table or tent. Gail will take the banner, tablecloth runner and a tablecloth to Maureen to hold at the
office. Vivian will take the survey information on the Farmers Market to Maureen.
A discussion was held about whether only Edmonds residents can participate in the raffle, and it was
agreed upon since funds for the trees are from Edmonds taxes. Barbara agreed to do a sign stating
this information, for the table.
Tree Placards
Bill reported that this is the second year for placing tree identification placards in town. They were up
for 3 weeks, and it is expected that Bill will have to have new placards made next year. He was
thanked for his efforts.
Edmonds in Bloom Garden Tour
Gail reported that this is also our second year for Garden Tour tree identification. Sixteen signs were
placed in 6 of the 7 gardens. There were 737 people touring the gardens. We had a table with the
"Chainsaw" brochure in one garden, and many people took them. Gail suggested that we work with
the Garden Tour committee next year to provide a Tree Board table with logo and our brochures,
and have at least one Tree Board person present for each 2'/2 hour shift of the tour, to discuss tree
issues with guests.
Brochures
Suzanne brought samples of her tree brochure. It was agreed that she would e-mail Kyle a pdf
version of it, and he will follow up with finishing the brochure as part of his contract. Deadline for the
brochure is our next TB meeting (Sept 6). It was suggested that Vivian write an article on developing
the brochure, for the Edmonds Beacon, with layout, pictures, etc, and that the brochure be used as
part of our City Council presentation.
7. NEW BUSINESS
Budget
Our current annual budget is $3000, out of which we have $1190 remaining. We won't be able to
Make our desired contribution to Rich Lindsay for trees for Arbor Day ($750 is available rather than
$1500 as planned.) He will need to use money from another fund. Discussion ensued about
requesting an increase in our annual budget, and it was agreed upon to recommend $4000 for an
annual budget for next year. Doug will write up a request for $4000 in goods and services for Tree
Board.
Upcoming Events
Arbor Day (Meadowdale Park)
Date is set at 10/6/18/ After the Taste of Edmonds, Rich will have more time to work on Arbor Day
planning. Current plans are to use rhododendron and native trees. Suzanne's Cryptomeria japonica
