5. OLD BUSINESS/DISCUSSION
UFMP STATUS
About 12 people attended the UFM working group meeting in Edmonds, including Ross Dimmock
and several TB members. It was agreed that the Davey draft was of poor quality, and our
percentage canopy was discussed in contrast with that in neighboring cities. Rich suggested
that we need to track the canopy for all of Edmonds rather than only city property. A new draft
will be developed by the UFM working group.
SMALL TREE BROCHURE STATUS
Discussion continued to March meeting since Suzanne wasn't present. Diane will contact Kyle
Braun, our former TB consultant regarding his completion of brochure edits.
BARBARA'S GARDEN CLUB PRESENTATION
Presentation by Barbara will be at 11 AM on Monday, Feb 25 in the City Hall Brackett Room. It is
expected that she will coordinate with Floretum on items given in her letter.
Vivian will bring 'chain saw' brochures from Maureen's office.
ART COMMISSION JOINT PROJECT STATUS
Due to Suzanne's absence, discussion on the 'synergistic guild', in which plants work together in a
grouping, will continue to next month.
Rich will talk to the Parks crew about a more prominent location than the demo garden/fish hatchery
for the project.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Bill Phipps and Vivian Olson have agreed to co-chair the TB for the next year.
6. NEW BUSINESS
CITY COUNCIL PRESENTATION
Date is March 19. Frank, Vivian and Doug will present with photos from Suzanne. Attendance is
encouraged for TB members.
EARTH DAY
And 'Ivy Pull' will be held on April 20, Sat, 9 AM, at Pine Ridge (206th and 82nd). It is being
coordinated by Jen Leach of Parks and Rec. Motion passed to provide $100 for food and drink.
(Diane — bars and Gail - coffee). Vivian will bring tablecloth and TB runner.
REC CENTER/CRAZE COLLABORATION
Doug will work with Jen Leach to target autumn Craze on TB activity.
SHORELINE TB MEETING AND STATE GROUP PARTNERSHIPS
Bill reported that Shoreline is partners with other state groups, including 'Mountain to Sound
Greenway Trust', 'Forterra', and WA Native Plant Stewardship Program' to develop an Urban
Forestry Carbon Registry for planting trees in open spaces in the larger area (Puget Sound over the
Cascades to the Yakima Valley) when local trees are being removed. Steve emphasized that we
can't rationalize extensive tree removal in Edmonds by planting elsewhere in the Pacific NW. A
discussion ensued re pursuing partnerships for grants.
Diane informed us that we have a .5 position arborist in the 2019 budget.
