I. CALL TO ORDER
Secretary Owen Lee called the meeting to order at 6:01 pm in room 123 in the Frances
Anderson Center, 700 Main St, Edmonds
IN THE ABSENCE OF THE CHAIR AND CO-CHAIR, THE COMMISSION UNANIMOUSLY ELECTED
SECRETARY OWEN LEE TO THE OFFICE OF CHAIRMAN PRO-TEM, AND EMILY SANGER TO THE
OFFICE OF CO-CHAIRMAN PRO-TEM.
IN THE ABSENCE OF A SECRETARY, THE COMMISSION UNANIMOUSLY ELECTED NOAH
ERICKSON TO THE OFFICE OF SECRETARY PRO-TEM.

III. HOUSEKEEPING
- The commission joined Casey in thanking Noah Erickson for his commitment and
contributions to the commission. Noah's tenure expires on 30 June, and will not be
returning to the commission.
IV. SHARE DIVERSITY, JULY 4TH, SHARE PLANNING
- There's only so much the commission members can do to make people apply to increase
diversity
- Scriber Lake lunch table opportunity
- What are the commission members doing for the 4th?

CANCEL THE 3 JULY MEETING. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
- Chamber of commerce in need of volunteers for the 4th festivities
- Greeter
- Facilities
- General event facilities
- Help setting up 5k run
- Diversity commission really wants to meet with the Youth Commission
- Don't have time, maybe joint work session meeting?
- Graphic novel on urban planning in the State of Washington
- Stakeholder groups
- Wants to share their project with the commission
- Fall project?
- What the future of the State looks like
- 4 months before the commission's first major event

- 100s of people in common area
- Chanting "save the beach!"

Can't propose a new idea
Is needed, but not the right way
- The proposal was voted down,
Would have cost —$35M
Faster response for first responders
- Mayor recently passed restrictions on responders
- Considering dissolvement of Edmonds Fire Department, relying solely on other
cities
Reasons due to delays not recorded
- No valuable statistics available
- Save the beach
- Ugly
- Build elsewhere?
- Trains per day have only increased by 5 since 2012
- WA has a bad track record with at -grade RR crossings
State able to give money to help
Need to address
- What does the commission think?
- Good idea, bad implementation
- Possibly torn down
- Blocks view of the sound
- Dangerous for first responders jumping tracks w/o overpass
- Don't want to vilify those who support it
- Don't need to write more than a paragraph
- The city shouldn't touch the sanctuary area
- Statement ideas
- The Edmonds youth commission supports the city council's decision to
cease advancement of the construction of the connector between Sunset
Ave. and Brackett's Landing. While the commission agrees there is a need
for rapid first responses for emergency services on the west side of the
railroad tracks, the commission does not believe that the "waterfront
connector" was the correct design or placement to preserve the
aesthetics & marine sanctuary that defines Edmonds.

- The commission watched a segment of the 6/18 City Council meeting regarding the
waterfront connector.
